    In una notte di pioggia il professore di astrofisica Enzo Stefanelli soccorre e salva un giovane ferito da un colpo di pistola. Così gli deve ora riconoscenza e decide di dimostrargliela in un modo particolare. Visto che è un killer di professione, è pronto a uccidere gratuitamente quello che Enzo considera il suo peggior nemico. Il professore inizialmente si ritrae: non pensa di avere nemici. Il killer lo spingerà a guardarsi intorno e progressivamente le idee di Enzo cambieranno.

    Mostruosi esseri creati in laboratorio, definiti “Player”, vengono fatti combattere tra loro in battaglie al centro di scommesse clandestine gestite da membri dell’alta società. Un giorno queste creature acquisiscono una propria coscienza, ribellandosi e facendo una strage tra gli spettatori. Solo due degli umani presenti durante l’incidente si salvano, mentre tredici Player restano a piede libero. Passano gli anni. Nei bassifondi della città, un giovane senzatetto di nome Jin trascorre il tempo prestando soccorso a persone in pericolo, spesso in compagnia di Kouga, un ragazzino di ricca famiglia amante della giustizia, e della sorellina Konoha. Jin è un ragazzino estremamente ingenuo, ma suo nonno gli impartisce quotidianamente delle lezioni di vita, nella speranza che ciò possa sempre guidarlo lungo la retta via, a dispetto dell’oscuro segreto che si cela in lui. Fuggito dalla nave che doveva trasportarlo alle Falkland, l'agente si recherà dapprima a Cuba dove incontrerà l'affascinante statunitense Jinx, poi a Londra dove il misterioso miliardario Gustav Graves sembra tirare le fila del gioco. Di mezzo c'è un satellite capace di concentrare la luce solare, doppi e tripli giochi, un conflitto alle porte tra Corea del Nord e del Sud. Non è difficile immaginare chi l'avrà vinta.
