Dopo lo stupore e l’entusiasmo iniziali per essere finito nella New York del 3000, Fry scopre di avere un nipote più adulto, il professor Farnsworth, proprietario di una società di trasporti intergalattica. Comincia così a lavorare per lui, facendo amicizia con una monocola di nome Lela e un insolente robot bevitore di birra, Bender.

Fontaine è uno spacciatore che vive alla giornata in una cittadina fatiscente. Abita con la madre a cui chiede ogni giorno se vuole qualcosa da mangiare e non si è ancora ripreso dalla morte del fratellino Ronald. Slick è un magnaccia che, secondo le sue parole, era considerato come il migliore nel suo campo nel 1995 e Yo-Yo è una prostituta che lavora per lui. Una sera Fontaine viene ucciso da colpi di arma da fuoco, ma la mattina dopo però si risveglia nel suo letto. In realtà è stato clonato. Così, assieme a Slick e Yo-Yo inizia ad indagare per capire cosa gli è successo. I tre entrano in una casa abbandonata da dove, attraverso un luminoso ascensore, arrivano a un laboratorio sotterraneo dove scoprono cosa c'è dietro la clonazione di Fontaine; il governo sta infatti facendo degli esperimenti sulla popolazione nera.

Tre anni fa un eroe ha sigillato un cancello dell'inferno, ma il sigillo si è indebolito molto da allora, e sporadicamente lascia passare dei mostri. Dopo che un grande gruppo di mostri è entrato nel paese attraversando il cancello dell'inferno, la professione di eroe è diventata di nuovo indispensabile. Touka Scott, un piccolo agricoltore della città di Cheza, si è preparato per un improvviso attacco di mostri. Ha costruito una trappola in cui attirarli nel caso di un eventuale attacco al villaggio. Improvvisamente un mostro attacca e Touka prova invano ad attirarlo in trappola usando della pancetta affumicata. Fortunatamente l'eroe locale salva il villaggio appena in tempo. Dopo aver sconfitto il mostro, l'eroe, affamato, tenta di mangiare un boccone di pancetta, ma muore cadendo nella trappola di Touka. Dopo aver causato la morte dell'eroe locale, Touka è costretto a prendere il suo posto, per proteggere la regione dall'attacco dei mostri.

Sul mondo dei Maximals, robot con la forma di animali terrestri, giunge il divora pianeti Unicron, in cerca della chiave di transcurvatura. I Maximals però fuggono portandola con sé, impedendogli così di liberarsi. Il transformers Scourge, al servizio di Unicron, è però sulle loro tracce... Nella New York del 1994, nel mentre, l'ex soldato Noah Diaz e la brillante archeologa Elena Wallace navigano difficoltà personali e soprattutto professionali, che li portano, in modo diverso, a scoprire l'esistenza dei Transformers. Per questi ultimi la chiave di Transcurvatura sarebbe il solo modo di ritornare sul pianeta nativo di Cybertron, ma la minaccia di Unicron è troppo grande per correre dei rischi.

Su un passo di montagna, sul confine tedesco-austriaco, viene ritrovato un cadavere. Le autorità investigative tedesche inviano la giovane commissaria Ellie Stocker, per la quale questo caso rappresenta la prima grande sfida della sua carriera. Ma la sua controparte austriaca, l'ispettore cinico e meno impegnato Gedeon Winter, inizialmente mostra scarso interesse per la cooperazione. Non appena vengono trovati altri cadaveri disposti simbolicamente, diventa chiaro che si tratta di un killer seriale. Con le sue vittime, lascia il messaggio "La stagione rossa arriva", facendosi chiamare Krampus. La pressione su Stocker e Winter per fermare l'autore degli omicidi aumenta. Nelle loro indagini, i due investigatori penetrano sempre più in profondità nelle valli oscure, nei costumi arcaici della regione e nel mondo delirante dell'assassino.
