Nevertheless, the records rounded up here -- which include the eight albums Lowell George recorded with the band (the seminal 1978 live album Waiting for Columbus is present in its 2002 expansion), plus the 1981 compilation Hoy Hoy! and the two comeback albums, 1988's Let It Roll and Representing the Mambo; an edited version of the rarities disc from 2000's Hotcakes & Outtakes box is nicely included (the earliest songs have been excised) -- represent the group's core catalog. They'd continue to record into the new millennium -- 2012's Rooster Rag is quite good -- but these albums have the songs and sensibility that built their legacy, which does include their remarkably successful return in 1988. Trama Le due serie furono concepite con nomi diversi perché originariamente la Warner Bros voleva che fossero due serie separate di cartoni (allo stesso modo delle serie della Walt Disney Sinfonie allegre e Mickey Mouse). Inizialmente, le due serie si differenziavano secondo il seguente criterio: le Looney Tunes avevano come protagonista un personaggio ricorrente (Bosko), mentre le Merrie Melodies costituivano una sorta di predecessore degli attuali videoclip musicali, in quanto ogni cartoon era caratterizzato dall'uso di una canzone tratta dal catalogo musicale della Warner Bros, e spesso utilizzavano personaggi diversi in ogni cartoon (anche se all'interno di questa serie nacquero personaggi ricorrenti quali Foxy, Piggy o Goopy Geer, che ebbero tuttavia una esistenza piuttosto breve). Dopo che Harman e Ising lasciarono la Warner nel 1933, portando con sé alla MGM il personaggio da loro creato, Bosko, la formula rimase invariata, sostituendo nelle Looney Tunes Bosko con un nuovo personaggio, Buddy. A partire dal 1934, le Merrie Melodies passarono al colore, mentre le Looney Tunes rimasero in bianco e nero fino al 1943. A questo punto, con entrambe le serie prodotte a colori, le differenze tra di esse saranno pressoché nulle, in quanto la regola che identificava le Merrie Melodies come cartoons prettamente musicali venne gradualmente abbandonata a partire dalla seconda metà degli anni trenta.
