La storia è ambientata in un mondo ricoperto da sterminati deserti sabbiosi. Chakuro è un archivista quattordicenne che vive a bordo di un'immensa isola fluttuante, la Mud Whale, che solca il “mare” di dune. Nove abitanti su dieci dell’isola fluttuante sono dotati dell’abilità di utilizzare il "saimia", ciò rappresenta allo stesso tempo una benedizione e una maledizione, poiché seppur vero che il potere è utile, è anche vero che chi ne è portatore è destinato a morte precoce. Chakuro ed i suoi giovani amici non hanno mai avuto alcun contatto con persone estranee alla Mud Whale e passano il tempo a fantasticare sugli estranei, smaniosi di incontrarli; poiché durante la navigazione hanno incrociato varie isole, ma si sono rivelate tutte disabitate o abbandonate. Un giorno la loro isola ne incrocia una altrettanto grande, in questa occasione Chakura incontra una nuova ragazza, che cambierà il suo destino.

Yoh Asakura è il discendente di una antichissima famiglia di sciamani. Fin da piccolo è in grado di vedere gli spiriti e, anziché ignorarli o essere spaventato da loro, tende sempre a farci amicizia. Il suo desiderio più grande è di vivere in tranquillità. La storia si apre a Tokyo dove inizia a frequentare la scuola insieme ad un ragazzo di nome Manta, da lui incontrato in un cimitero. Fin da subito troverà in Manta un amico importantissimo, tanto che gli rivelerà la sua abilità di intermediario con gli spiriti. Yoh si trova a Tokyo per partecipare allo Shaman Fight, ossia un torneo tra sciamani che si svolge ogni 500 anni per eleggere lo Shaman King. Chi diventa Shaman King può esaudire il suo più grande desiderio, e con l'assimilazione al grande spirito (conseguente l'incoronazione a re degli sciamani) possederà tutte le conoscenze del passato, presente e futuro.

La storia prende luogo nel prestigioso Istituto Todou, il cosiddetto "paradiso dei combattenti", una scuola equivalente al liceo dove, invece delle discipline canoniche, viene insegnata esclusivamente l'arte del combattimento. In realtà non si ha modo di assistere a molte lezioni, perché i protagonisti passano la maggior parte del proprio tempo in giro per i corridoi o nel cortile a picchiarsi o, nel migliore dei casi, ad allenarsi nelle numerose palestre presenti nell'istituto. Protagonisti indiscussi del manga sembrano essere, almeno per i primi due numeri, Soichiro Nagi e Bob Makihara, due nuovi studenti che, non appena arrivati a scuola, cominciano a sfidare chiunque incontrino sulla propria strada, finché non si imbattono in individui i cui poteri vanno ben oltre quelli dei normali combattenti incontrati fino a quel momento. Preso atto della propria debolezza, i due decidono quindi di aggregarsi al Club di Juken che, nonostante sembri essere il clan più forte dell'istituto, è composto da pochissimi membri a causa della storica rivalità con il Gruppo Esecutivo, una sorta di polizia interna alla scuola. Parte della storia è dedicata ad un lungo flashback in cui vengono spiegati i motivi delle controversie tra Maya Natsume, leader del Jukenbu, e Mitsuomi Takayanagi, che fa invece testa al Gruppo Esecutivo. Ma presto la trama si infittisce di legami tra vari personaggi che possono sembrare solo di passaggio per poi ritrovarli successivamente come parte attiva della storia. Viene narrato il passato dei protagonisti e lo sviluppo di Bob e Soichiro. Si scopre la vera potenza di Soichiro e il motivo per cui poi viene rapito dal padre, Sohaku Kago. Soichiro è l'ultimo erede della Casata del Teppistello. Cioè è una persona in grado di utilizzare lo spirito in maniera illimitata e di rubare le tecniche proprie dei casati avversari. Sohaku rinchiude Soichiro e lo fa combattere contro vari capifamiglia in modo che possa rubarne le tecniche. Nel frattempo utilizzando i suoi sottoposti del gruppo di F. tenta di rubare un chip con informazioni molto importanti. Mitsuomi Takayanagi che si pensava essere a capo di F in realtà non è altro che una pedina di Sohaku. Stufo di essere comandato con Maya Natsume e portandosi dietro Reiki la spada del fratello Shin Natsume vanno a liberare Soichiro e ad uccidere Sohaku.

Quando la popolazione della Terra aumentò drasticamente, l'umanità tentò di colonizzare Marte. Durante la colonizzazione furono scoperte due tecnologie aliene: le nanomacchine Bacillus e Crusnik. I coloni installarono il Bacillus nei loro corpi, che li trasformò in Methuselah. Invece installarono il Crusnik negli organismi di quattro bambini concepiti in provetta: Seth, Cain, Abel e Lilith i cui corpi rafforzati erano gli unici in grado di sopravvivere alla procedura. Quando i coloni tornarono sulla Terra, scoppiò una guerra tra i Methuselah e gli esseri umani rimasti. Abel, Cain e Seth si schierarono dalla parte dei Methuselah mentre Lilith sostenne la fazione dell'uomo. La continua guerra infine portò all'Armageddon, l'evento apocalittico accaduto 900 anni prima dall'inizio della storia. Durante la guerra, Cain impazzì e uccise Lilith. Afflitto dal dolore, Abel portò il suo corpo in Vaticano, dove fu sepolta e dove lui rimase al suo fianco piangendo per 900 anni. All'inizio della storia, i vampirici Methuselah, essendo ancora una grande forza politica e militare, continuano a fare la guerra contro i "Terran", come chiamano i normali esseri umani. La Santa Romana Chiesa, invece, è anch'essa una grande potenza militare ed è decisa a proteggere gli esseri umani dai Methuselah, con la sua sede di potere situata nel Vaticano. Inoltre i Methuselah hanno la loro capitale a Bisanzio, che è circondata da un campo di particelle che filtrano i raggi ultravioletti per proteggere la loro popolazione. Entrambi i gruppi utilizzano le "tecnologie perdute", come aeronavi, missili e computer, per intraprendere una guerra fredda l'uno contro l'altro. Una terza grande potenza, Albion, svolge un ruolo nella guerra con il suo arsenale superiore di tecnologia perduta, armi e maggiore capacità manifatturiera rispetto al Vaticano. La monarchia indipendente di Albion è un paese essenzialmente umano, ma il segreto della loro esperienza nella tecnologia perduta si trova nel Ghetto, una città sotterranea di schiavi Methuselah. L’umanità ha perso l’accesso alla cabina di controllo, ed il sistema di difesa, Safeguard, è in tilt: dà la caccia agli esseri umani e, quando li trova, li uccide. Il Team 7 composto da Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha, Sakura Haruno e Kakashi Hatake parte per una nuova missione dove dovrà riportare la pace nel Paese della Neve. La storia girerà intorno ad un Daimyo (ricco uomo d'affari, legislatore del Paese) di nome Sosetsu Kazahana, che aveva destinato al trono la propria figlia. Il fratello minore di Sosetsu, Doto, assalito dall'invidia e dalla conquista del potere ucciderà in una rivolta suo fratello prendendo in mano il controllo del Villaggio. La figlia di Sosetsu, Koyuki, dopo aver ricevuto un particolare cristallo, decide di fuggire via dalla propria città natale. Il team sarà impegnato in una nuova missione che consiste nel proteggere l'attrice Yukie che altri non è che la Principessa Koyuki durante le riprese del film, dove sarà attaccata dai 3 ninja della Neve: Nadare, Mizore, e Fubuki. Koyuki, grazie all'aiuto di Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura e Kakashi accetterà di ritornare indietro e di riconquistare il potere perduto.

Batou è un cyborg. Le uniche tracce di umanità risiedono nel suo cervello e nel ricordo di una donna chiamata Mayor. Batou sta indagando su una nuova specie di creature i gynoid. Al team di Naruto viene affidata la protezione di Shion, una sacerdotessa del Paese dei Demoni la cui missione è quella di sigillare nuovamente un demone che nel passato aveva quasi distrutto il mondo e che per un motivo misterioso è riuscito a risorgere. Shion possiede due facoltà uniche nel suo genere: la prima è quella di poter sigillare il demone risorto, la seconda quella di poter predire la morte delle persone, un'abilità che non si è mai rivelata fallace. Per salvare il mondo dalla crisi, Naruto partirà insieme a Sakura, Neji e Lee per il Paese dei Demoni dove dovrà sfidare la sua stessa morte.Nel film ci saranno 4 ninja capaci di mutare le forme del loro corpo, ma il vero cattivo è un'altro , gli altri cattivi consistono in: un demone e un esercito di uomini che dalle immagini sembrerebbero non viventi, fatti di ceramica o di un altro materiale a noi per ora sconosciuto.

While she manages to read the Psalms, she wrote Maximilien a letter claiming that she was unable to do so and rejecting his love. Meanwhile, Maximilien approaches a now hateful Robin, commenting that Robin's ability to actually carry the Psalms is a sign that the Psalms want change to occur in France, and telling him to take revenge for his murdered friends. D'Eon is chased down by palace guards, but Lorenza kills them, and once free he visits Anna's coffin. He then sneaks into Broglie's room and forces him to bring him to the King's chambers. Muten propone ai due una sfida, il primo di loro che porterà al maestro la "Bella Addormentata", una bellissima ragazza prigioniera a Castel Demonio, un luogo che si trova nei pressi della Mano del Diavolo (una catena montuosa formata da cinque montagne), diventerà il suo nuovo pupillo. I due accettano la sfida, ma Muten impone a Goku di non usare la Nuvola d'Oro. Questa volta, i giovani Goku e Crilin si stanno allenando sotto la guida del Maestro Muten, per partecipare ad un Torneo Mondiale d'Arti Marziali che si terrà nel paese di Miifan. L'imperatore del luogo, Jiaozi, sta cercando di ritrovare la sua promessa sposa Ran Ran (Lan Lan nel doppiaggio italiano), scomparsa misteriosamente. In quel mentre l'Eremita della Gru, ministro dell'imperatore, avendo fatto costruire al suo servo Pilaf un Dragon Radar, ha preso l'arnese ed ora lo sta usando per localizzare le sfere del drago; l'Eremita e suo fratello, il mercenario Taobaibai, sostengono che useranno il desiderio di Shenron per ritrovare Ran Ran, ma in realtà stanno pianificando di uccidere Jiaozi con l'aiuto di Tenshinhan e d'impossessarsi di tutto il paese.

Goku, che era a pesca, torna a casa dopo aver percepito una presenza malvagia e vicina, per poi scoprire che il figlio è stato rapito. Avvisati da Re Kaioh, Goku e i suoi amici vengono a conoscenza della devastazione imminente del pianeta qualora l'albero non venisse distrutto. Dopo vari tentativi di distruzione non andati a buon fine, i guerrieri vengono improvvisamente attaccati dagli uomini di Turles, con quest'ultimo che si rivela non appena scopre che Gohan sia per metà Saiyan.

Il film inizia con un flashback di quando Freezer distrusse il pianeta Vegeta. Il tiranno però non si accorse che in direzione del pianeta Terra si stava dirigendo in quel momento la navicella di Goku; quest'ultima venne però avvistata da Cooler, fratello maggiore di Freezer, e i suoi scagnozzi i quali decisero però di lasciarla andare non volendo intromettersi negli affari dell'imperatore. Più di 20 anni dopo, quando Goku sconfigge Freezer sul pianeta Namek, Cooler decide di andare sulla Terra per ottenere vendetta. Cooler è stato sconfitto da Goku dopo che quest'ultimo lo scagliò contro il Sole uccidendolo. Tuttavia, parte della sua materia cerebrale rimase a galla nello spazio e venne casualmente in contatto con Big Gete Star, un enorme pianeta meccanico generato da rifiuti spaziali e completamente autonomo. Big Gete Star ricostruisce così l'entità di Cooler che, una volta preso il totale controllo del computer principale, si dirige verso il pianeta di Neo Namecc attaccandolo e cominciando ad assorbirne l'energia vitale.

Un Super Saiyan leggendario è comparso nella galassia meridionale ed è necessario l'intervento di Goku, che arriva sul nuovo pianeta Vegeta. Anche Vegeta, Trunks e gli altri giungono sul pianeta, invitati da Paragas, un Saiyan superstite anch'egli alla ricerca del leggendario guerriero. Quando Broly, il figlio di Paragas, si imbatte con Goku, si risveglia il suo vero potere: è lui il Super Saiyan leggendario. Se lasciato senza controllo, Broly con la sua potenza distruggerebbe l'intero universo e questo Goku non può permetterlo, nonostante la sua inferiorità. Solo il potere unito di tutti i guerrieri Z può davvero sconfiggere un avversario così potente.

Dopo sette anni dalla sua sconfitta, una navicella contenente un Broly in fin di vita si schianta sulla Terra. Videl, Goten e Trunks, alla ricerca delle sfere del drago, capitano in un villaggio povero, anche se ricco di cristalli. Lo sciamano del posto gli rivela che un terribile mostro minaccia il villaggio così i tre amici, in cambio della promessa di ricevere in cambio la sfera, sconfiggono il mostro che si rivela essere un dinosauro molto debole. Quando però Videl e Goten hanno un battibecco tra di loro, le urla di quest'ultimo risvegliano l'odio cieco del leggendario Super Saiyan. Una forte eruzione vulcanica porta Videl ad investigare finendo per imbattersi proprio con Broly.
