More than 50 years later, it's one of the most famous albums in rock history with legendary songs, including "Carry On" and "Teach Your Children," that still resonate today. This milestone album is transformed into an expansive HiResAudio collection that includes a pristine version of the original album, plus hours of rare and unreleased studio recordings that provide incredible insight into the making of the record. Crowe recalls in the liner notes that "Deja Vu caught the zeitgeist perfectly" and "might just be the legendary band's most accurate portrait of their fiery individualism." Of this new Deluxe Edition, Crowe opines: "50 years later, with the sonic aperture fully opened, it's a wide-screen look at the big picture of Deja Vu, with more music, including a batch of surprises, unseen photos, and a lot more clarity." On the new anniversary edition, the album's original 10 tracks are joined by 38 more to add nearly two-and-a-half hours of music that includes demos, outtakes, and alternate takes - most of which are previously unreleased. Among them is "Know You Got To Run," the first song the quartet recorded during its first session on July 15 at the house Stills was renting from Peter Tork in Studio City. Other unreleased highlights include the demo for Crosby's "Almost Cut My Hair"; Stills' outtake for "Bluebird Revisited"; and Young's alternate version of "Helpless" featuring harmonica. It is the second posthumous Mothers album released after the band disbanded in 1969, preceded by Burnt Weeny Sandwich. In contrast to it's predecessor, which predominately focused on studio recordings of tightly arranged compositions, Weasels Ripped My Flesh largely consists of live recordings and features more improvisation. Whereas all but one of the pieces on Burnt Weeny Sandwich have a more planned feel captured by quality studio equipment, five tracks from Weasels Ripped My Flesh capture the Mothers on stage, where they employ frenetic and chaotic improvisation characteristic of avant-garde jazz and free jazz. This is particularly evident on "Eric Dolphy Memorial Barbecue," a tribute to the multi-instrumentalist, cited as a musical influence in the liner notes to the band's Freak Out! Album, who died in 1964. The album also documents the brief tenure of Lowell George (guitar and vocals), who went on to found the country-rock band Little Feat with Mothers bassist Roy Estrada. Frank Zappa's third album within the space of a year, 'Chunga's Revenge' ranges from hard rock to doo-wop and the avant-garde, standing the test of time. "Chunga's Revenge marks the debut of Mark Volman and Howard Kaylan (among several other musicians) with the Mothers, and while their schtick has not reached the graphic proportions it later would, the thematic obsessions of the 200 Motels period are foreshadowed on tracks like "Road Ladies" and "Would You Go All the Way?" Other vocal numbers include the hard-rocking "Tell Me You Love Me," the musicians' union satire "Rudy Wants to Buy Yez a Drink," and the doo wop-influenced "Sharleena." Meanwhile, Frank Zappa's strong instrumental music incorporates Eastern European influences ("Transylvania Boogie"), cocktail jazz ("Twenty Small Cigars"), and the percussion-only "The Clap." Zappa's guitar tone is wonderfully biting and nasty throughout; George Duke provides another musical highlight by scat-singing a "drum solo." Bigger than Woodstock, and controversial from the get-go, hundreds of thousands of people descended on the island. Many of those without tickets set up camp on a hill overlooking the festival site, opposing the consumerism of the event and intent on taking the music back by any means necessary. It was a celebration of hippy counter culture gone awry, and in Joni's words "they fed me to the beast". Joni Mitchell took to the stage to deliver an outstanding performance against all odds. At times it was a battle against the audience, as they tore down barriers and shouted obscenities. Her set was interrupted multiple times, including one man invading the stage to try address the crowd. She later commented, "It seemed like an appropriate time to flee...", but still the seemingly fragile folk-rock singer stood her ground. Instead she returned to her piano, sitting on a fold-up wooden chair, and made an impassioned plea for respect from the audience, continuing her set with "My Old Man" she won over the crowd and the atmosphere softened. In response the front page of Melody Maker hailed her with the frontpage headline, "Joni triumphs!". Ora ci proverò nuovamente: pensavo ad una breve storia dell'astrologia italiana nel XX secolo. Molti anni fa chiesi ad una mia allieva di Milano di andare a intervistare Rosita Cardano e di redigere con lei, appunto, una breve storia dell'astrologia italiana in quel secolo. Purtroppo la mia allieva rinviò più volte e intanto la nostra amata collega ci lasciò per sempre. La seconda volta ci provai con Federico Capone che, a ben vedere, era la persona più adatta a questo scopo. Era già molto malato e, nonostante ciò, combinammo un accordo che prevedeva una lunga trasferta di un collega a Torino per questo scopo. L'incontro era fissato per settembre, ma - durante l'agosto che lo precedette - anche Federico Capone ci lasciò con un vuoto immenso, nei sentimenti e nella storia che non scrisse: due cavità che non potranno mai più essere colmate. Questa volta ci proverò io perché penso che tocchi a me questo compito. Ci sono altri colleghi e colleghe anche con un'anzianità maggiore della mia, in campo astrologico e in Italia, ma non con un vissuto altrettanto intenso e con un numero di contatti pari ai miei: molti si sono un po' isolati durante la loro intera vita di studiosi; altri non hanno avuto buoni rapporti con alcuni settori dell'Arte di Urania in Italia. Io, fin dal primo anno che iniziai ad occuparmi di astrologia (era il 1970 e studiavo anche dodici ore al giorno la materia) presi contatti praticamente con tutti i grossi nomi dell'epoca, ma anche con tanti colleghi anonimi e che sono rimasti tali. Pertanto la mia breve storia sarà dal 1970 a oggi e sarà strutturata come attraverso un sentiero fatto di frames, immagini, amarcord personali, magari non strutturati organicamente e "assemblati scientificamente", ma da cui sarà possibile (mi auguro) trarre moltissime informazioni su quel periodo storico, in rapporto all'astrologia, con una serie di notizie inedite, e trasferitemi per lo più oralmente, che andrebbero perse per sempre se non le mettessi su carta.
