Awakenings USA, 1990 Genere: Drammatico durata 121'play Regia di Penny Marshall Con Robert De Niro, Robin Williams, John Heard, Julie Kavner, Penelope Ann Miller Dal libro del dott. Oliver Sacks, la storia di un medico (Robin Williams) che sperimenta sui malati di encefalite letargica una terapia rivoluzionaria. Otterrà risultati prodigiosi, ma di durata limitata nel tempo; poi i suoi assistiti ricadranno nel buio della malattia. Il film evidenzia un "caso" fra i 20 presentati nel libro, quello di Leonard Lowe (Robert De Niro), ma lo "addomestica" moltissimo. Grandi interpreti per una vicenda che punta spudoratamente sulla commozione ma che svilisce la realtà annegando tutto in un patetismo dolciastro. La "love-story" fra il medico e la sua collaboratrice è un quasi risibile contentino per il pubblico.
