On 12 August 2016, Claudio Abbado's unfinished Mahler cycle with the Lucerne Festival Orchestra was completed in a breathtaking performance of the Mahler 8th, simultaneously heralding in a new era in Lucerne.

Last year January 21st and 22nd world-renowned platinum-selling and Grammy nominated Blues-rock singer-songwriter and guitarist Joe Bonamassa performed 2 unique all-acoustic shows at the iconic Carnegie Hall in New York City. The concert was part of a special all-acoustic tour and featured an all-star ensemble of world-class musicians. On July 2nd and 3rd of 2016, Umphrey's McGee embarked on their first two-night headlining run of the famed Red Rocks Amphitheatre outside Denver, Colorado. The sold out shows proved to be a milestone for Team UM and cameras were rolling all weekend to capture the action, both on stage and off.
The double-feature concert film includes footage from both nights, clocking in at over five hours of Umphrey's live on the Rocks. These discs contain a pile of unreleased, behind-the-scenes footage including candid backstage hanging, pre-show warm up, and rehearsals. Additionally, in-depth interviews with the band are seamlessly weaved in and out of the film, highlighting a myriad of topics ranging from the early days of UM, band friendships, the improvisational process, songwriting, what it's like to play Red Rocks, and more.
The two-disc set was captured by TourGigs in stunning High Definition, utillizing 16 cameras over the two-night run. After Anathema's 2012 award-winning album Weather Systems and 2014's spellbinding Distant Satellites, the ambient rockers are back with their eleventh full-length, The Optimist. Out now on Kscope, The Optimist reveals some of the darkest, most challenging and unexpected music the sextet have put their name to.
Anathema, led by brothers Daniel and Vincent Cavanagh, along with drummer John Douglas, singer Lee Douglas, bassist Jamie Cavanagh and drummer/keyboardist Daniel Cardoso began recording The Optimist in the winter of 2016 at Attica Audio in Donegal, Ireland and then finished at Castle Of Doom studios in Glasgow with producer Tony Doogan [Mogwai, Belle & Sebastian, Super Furry Animals] at the helm. Vincent elaborates on Doogan's influence on the recording process "he suggested that we record as a live band, which we hadn't done for years. Having played a few tunes on the last tour, we were ready for that. Tony wanted to capture that energy you can only get with everyone facing each other. it makes a big difference. He was a superb guy to work with and I learned a lot making this record"
The idea for The Optimist was born from the front cover artwork of the band's 2001 album A Fine Day To Exit Daniel Cavanagh explains "I suppose you might say the album is semi-autobiographical because this time we used a surrogate," he says, of the character that is The Optimist "We put sound, feelings and crucially, our own hopes and fears into another person and made him the subject of the songs then weaving my own internal monologue into the narrative of The Optimist. It was John's idea to write a narrative, so I took A Fine Day To Exit as the starting point". Vincent elaborates further on the earlier album's artwork influence "The guy who disappeared - you never knew what happened to him, did he start a new life? Did he succumb to his fate? It was never explained. The opening track title is the exact coordinates for Silver Strand beach in San Diego - the last known location of The Optimist - shown on the cover of A Fine Day to Exit.
To continue the theme further, the band brought back designer and illustrator Travis Smith to create the artwork for The Optimist. The artwork was created from a series of photographs Smith took on a West Coast road trip.
With the character's unresolved destiny the three song writing members, meticulously brought the unfinished story to an end - and most strikingly of all - one which is decided by the listener.

• The Rolling Stones Ole Ole Ole!: A Trip Across Latin America is a feature documentary that follows the Rolling Stones' tour of early 2016 through 10 Latin American cities. The film combines electrifying live performances from across the tour and from their historic tour finale as the first ever rock band to perform to an audience of 1.2 million in Havana, with an intimate insight into the world of The Rolling Stones. A road movie that celebrates the revolutionary power of Rock n Roll, exhilarating and vivid, the film chronicles the tour, local culture and unique bond that exists between the Latin American people and The Rolling Stones. A portrait of a band still at the very top of their game that have seen it all but remain as hungry as ever to break new ground. Directed by Paul Dugdale, produced by Sam Bridger and shot throughout February and March 2016, the film is produced by JA Digital in co-production with Eagle Rock Films for Eagle Rock Entertainment and Promotone . The documentary captures blistering performances and unique personal experiences as the band visited Latin America for the first time in ten years. True pioneers of rock, the Stones, who have toured every corner of the globe, explored new horizons bringing their high octane performances to countries Uruguay, Peru and Colombia and the city of Porto Alegre, and of course, Cuba, for the very first time. Fans will see Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood mesmerize their generations of fans with full performances of classic hits from their extraordinary catalog such as, "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction", "It's Only Rock 'n Roll", "Wild Horses", "Honky Tonk Women", "Sympathy For The Devil", "Paint It Black" and "Miss You". Throughout the film viewers will hear personal stories and insights from the band on their chemistry, what it is like to tour and perform for tens of thousands of adoring fans, and memories and influences of these cities over the past 50 years. The 105 minute film, kicks off at the bands tour rehearsal's in Los Angeles, before they embark on the 2 month tour. The band immerses in the local cultures of these cities and the viewer learns about each destination's influence on the band and how the Rolling Stones impacted the cities and its people. In Argentina the Rolingo superfan culture is examined; in Uruguay the group visits a family of local drummers and jams with them; in Brazil, Mick and Keith fondly recall writing "Honky Tonk Women" in a ranch hours outside of Sao Paulo in the 1960's and tell stories before sitting down to play an acoustic rendition of the hit song; also in Sao Paolo Ronnie paints with a Brazilian friend Ivald Granato and discusses the importance of art in his life; in Lima the band watches Afro Peruvian dancers perform before joining in with them; and in Cuba we learn the stories of a Cuban mechanic and instrument repair woman, who discuss the positive changes coming to the island. Throughout the film the viewer gets an inside look at the interworking of the creation of the historic Cuba show, through interviews with the tour promoter, management, production and logistics managers, and the band members themselves.

• 2016 was a very busy year for German metal masters PRIMAL FEAR. Following the release of their latest killer album, "Rulebreaker" in January, the band embarked on a world tour which shattered all the previously held records for shows played in one year by the band. "We started in Europe with 11 countries and recorded the concert in Stuttgart for the album and video, which is Primal Fear's first Blu-Ray release. We continued in the USA and Canada, Japan and for the first time, Australia. Then we played some wonderful festivals in the summer, continued touring in 10 countries in South and Latin America and ended the year with more shows in Europe. • 2015 live release from British prog legend Eddie Jobson who joins forces with former UK bandmate John Wetton to perform two classic UK albums - UK and Danger Money - in their entirety live in Japan. The band also features Alex Machacek on guitar and Marco Minnemann on drums. Eddie Jobson is a keyboardist noted for his use of synthesizers. He has been a member of several progressive rock bands, including Curved Air, Roxy Music, UK, Jethro Tull and Yes. He was also part of Frank Zappa's band in 1976-77. Aside from his keyboard work Jobson has also gained acclaim for his violin playing.
