45 years after Pink Floyd's David Gilmour filmed 'Live At Pompeii' in the legendary Roman Amphitheatre there, he returned for two spectacular shows in July 2016, part of the year-long tour in support of his No.1 album 'Rattle That Lock'. The performances were the first-ever rock concerts for an audience in the stone Roman amphitheatre, and, for two nights only, the 2,600-strong crowd stood exactly where gladiators would have fought in the first century AD.
'David Gilmour Live At Pompeii' is an audio-visual spectacle, featuring lasers, pyrotechnics and a huge circular screen on which specially-created films complement selected songs, but paramount above all is the astonishing music and stellar performances. The show includes songs from throughout David's career, solo and with Pink Floyd, including 'One Of These Days', the only song that was also performed at the band's 1971 show, and six songs from 'Rattle that Lock', as well as two from 2006's 'On An Island'.
Both concerts also saw very special performances of 'The Great Gig In The Sky' from 'The Dark Side Of The Moon', which David rarely plays as a solo artist. 'Live at Pompeii', which is now available on 2-CD, Blu-ray, 2-DVD or deluxe Blu-ray box, includes highlights from the concert performances of both shows, filmed in 4K by director Gavin Elder. Radio Moscow are a blues-rock trio from Ames, Iowa, with a similarly anachronistic retro feel. Where bands like the Black Keys (whose guitarist Dan Auerbach produced Radio Moscow's debut album) and the White Stripes play with a stripped-down, modern take on the old power trio sound, Radio Moscow hark back to the glory days of the power trio, when Cream, the Jimi Hendrix Experience, and Blue Cheer roamed the earth and the power of the Marshall stack was unquestioned. Radio Moscow formed in Ames in 2004, a collaboration between two garage punk enthusiasts whose tastes had shifted into the heavy side of late-'60s psychedelia. Guitarist, singer, songwriter, and drummer Parker Griggs and bassist Luke McDuff approached Auerbach with a demo following a Black Keys gig, and the more established musician was impressed enough to both produce their debut album and to get the duo signed to his label, Alive Records. Although Griggs and McDuff recorded their self-titled first album as a duo, the pair hired drummer Mayuko to complete the trio for live purposes shortly before the album's release. The band continued as a two-piece for 2009's Brain Cycles and 2011's The Great Escape of Leslie Magnafuzz. In 2012, Alive released 3 & 3 Quarters, an album Griggs recorded by himself in 2003 when he was 17 years old and much more heavily influenced by Pebbles-style garage rock. For the 2014 album Magical Dirt, Radio Moscow unveiled a new lineup, with Griggs joined by a fresh rhythm section, bassist Anthony Meier and drummer Paul Marrone. Now officially a power trio, the group documented its new on-stage force with the 2016 release Live in California

Regina Spektor's second live album, Live on Soundstage was recorded for the PBS music series in a 400-seat studio at WTTW in Chicago in July 2016. The performance premiered on PBS stations that October, and in between, September saw the release of her seventh studio LP, Remember Us to Life. The live set relies heavily on that album and includes almost its entire track list. Having been her first record to feature a full orchestra on select songs, she has a piano and a 12-piece band/chamber orchestra at her disposal for the show. Standout moments include the orchestral hip-hop tune "Small Bill$," which is even more fun live, the dramatic "Seller of Flowers," and closer "Samson," the nimble ballad from 2002's Songs, which she (charmingly) has to restart here. The concert also includes the crowd-pleaser "You've Got the Time," her theme to the Netflix series Orange Is the New Black, and "New Year," which was a bonus track on an expanded edition of Remember Us to Life. With all of the newer material, fans of 2010's Live in London won't find too much overlap. Five fan favorites that appeared on that album show up among the 18 songs, including her 2007 hit "Fidelity" and show opener "On the Radio."

Following the highly successful releases of the Steven Wilson's remixes of The Power And The Glory and Octopus, Steven has now remixed a specially curated selection of songs and compositions from the band's first three albums (Giant, Acquiring the Taste, Three Friends) presented in both 5.1 surround sound and stereo. Only a few songs from each of the band's first three albums are known to exist as multi-tracks, with the rest presumably lost, and it is these nine tracks - plus the previously unreleased pre-debut song 'Freedom's Child' - that have been remixed by Steven Wilson for this very special release. 'Three Piece Suite' includes the songs 'Giant', 'Nothing At All' and 'Why Not' from the first album Giant, 'Pantagruel's Nativity', 'The House, The Street, The Room' from the second album Acquiring The Taste, and 'Schooldays', 'Peel the Paint', 'Mr. Class And Quality' and 'Three Friends' from the album Three Friends. The previously commercially unreleased song 'Freedom's Child' is from the first recording sessions with legendary producer Tony Visconti. The liner notes contain an essay by noted journalist Anil Prasad, in which Gentle Giant's members reflect upon the writing and recording sessions. Furthermore, Steven Wilson and Tony Visconti share their observations about the early days of this unique collection of timeless music from one of progressive rock's most influential bands.

"Live Insurrection" is filled with many great moments, because the band had chosen wisely their setlist. But the beautiful melodies and great work from vocals and keyboards of "Misunderstood", the seductive harmonies created by the contrast of keyboards and guitars on "Fly", the clear mix between Death Metal, Gothic Rock and Industrial influences shown on "Greed" (excellent vocals, both on guttural as in the clear tunes) and on "Haus mit Garten", the focus on an elegant and introspective form heard on "Ravens Calling", the good rhythmic work of "Pray" and on the Gothic feeling of "Everything" (bass guitar and drums are really fantastic on both, and on the last one, a fine work from keyboards is presented as well), the fine bittersweet melodies of the keyboards of "Shadowmaker", the excellent energy rush that "The Fallen" has, the hooking rhythm of "Die So Soon", and the classic old one "Tears of Time". But I have two particular complains (that will not influence on my final analysis of the album): why some songs of their classic "Awake" were left out? And they could have played "Ist Es Wahr" as well. But the album is really great!On the DVD, along with the full show, there are four videos from songs of "Monument", their last studio album: "Misunderstood", "Ravens Calling", "Haus mit Garten" and "Everything". Definitively: "Live Insurrection" is one of the best live albums of this year, if it isn't the best one.

Whitney - Can I Be Me (2017) Blu-ray

There's little riper for a heartstring-plucking documentary than the life of a beloved star cut tragically short. In British filmmaker Nick Broomfield's Whitney 'Can I Be Me', he paints a poignant picture but struggles to get to the heart of his subject.

This is ironic, as the title of the film is a reference to Whitney Houston's own assertion that she commits a lot of time to being what other people want her to be: "Can I be me, now?" At one point, an interviewer asks how she wants to be remembered. In her typically disarming style - a deft marriage of thoughtful authenticity and practised evasion - Houston retorts that it surely doesn't matter as people will just remember her as they want to. It's an insightful moment into her personality but also acts as a pointed critique of a film attempting to piece together a portrait from the suppositions and recollections of a variety of friends and colleagues.

In the 1920s, as radio took over the pop music business, record companies were forced to leave their studios in major cities in search of new styles and markets. Ranging the mountains, prairies, rural villages, and urban ghettos of America, they discovered a wealth of unexpected talent. The recordings they made of all the ethnic groups of America democratized the nation and gave a voice to everyone. Country singers in the Appalachians, Blues guitarists in the Mississippi Delta, Gospel preachers across the south, Cajun fiddlers in Louisiana, Tejano groups from the Texas Mexico border, Native American drummers in Arizona, and Hawaiian musicians were all recorded. For the first time, a woman picking cotton in Mississippi, a coalminer in Virginia or a tobacco farmer in Tennessee could have their thoughts and feelings heard on records played in living rooms across the country. It was the first time America heard itself.
Virtually no documentation of these extraordinary events survives and nearly ninety percent of the recording masters have been destroyed. A vital part of American cultural history has been lost.
Over three episodes, narrated by Robert Redford, AMERICAN EPIC rescues this history. The remarkable lives of these seminal musicians are revealed through previously unseen film footage and photographs, and exclusive interviews with music pioneers, their families and eyewitnesses to the era.
AMERICAN EPIC represents a ten-year odyssey undertaken by director Bernard MacMahon and producers Allison McGourty and Duke Erikson, and audio engineer Nicholas Bergh that involved tracking down countless long forgotten musicians, restoring the music that they recorded and reassembling the technology that created it. Along the way they brought some of the most important figures in contemporary culture to help them on their quest. In THE AMERICAN EPIC SESSIONS, the team has reassembled the very first electrical sound recording system from the 1920s, and invited Jack White and T Bone Burnett to produce an album of recordings by twenty of today's greatest artists. In this beautifully filmed musical feature, these artists are given the chance to pass through the portal that brought the world into the modern era.
Engineer Nicholas Bergh has reassembled this recording system from original parts and it is now the only one left in the world. The system consists of a single microphone, a towering six-foot amplifier rack, and a live record-cutting lathe, powered by a weight-driven pulley system of clockwork gears. The musicians have roughly three minutes to record their song direct to disc before the weight hits the floor. In the 1920s, they called this "catching lightning in a bottle." All the musical performances in this film are live. The audio you hear is taken directly from the discs they were recorded to, with no editing or enhancements.

"What they were allowed to say on phonograph recordings, they were not allowed to speak in public or in person. That is an astounding thought."
Nas, who records the Memphis Jug Band's 1928 song "On the Road Again" said "When you hear me saying it, you might think I wrote it, because it sounds like something today. These guys are talking about carrying guns, shooting something, protecting their honor, chasing after some woman who's done them dirty.it's the same as rap music today, so it just tells you something about American culture, American music.It didn't start with hip hop, it started a long time ago. It started with America."

Level Headed is the sixth album by Sweet. Different versions were released by Polydor in Europe and by Capitol in the US, Canada and Japan. The album features "Love Is Like Oxygen", the band's last single to hit the top 40, peaking at #8 in the US and #9 in the UK. The single version of "Love Is Like Oxygen" is substantially shorter than the album version. A second single, "California Nights", was released from the album but only reached #76 in the US.
This was the last album to feature the classic Sweet lineup, as Brian Connolly departed around a year after the album's release, in order to embark on a solo career. The remaining trio of Steve Priest, Andy Scott, and Mick Tucker continued on and delivered three more albums before breaking up in 1981.

As the brainchild of Matt Sippola, Atavistia is a newly formed epic metal band hailing from Vancouver, BC, Canada.
Influenced by bands such as Wintersun and Ensiferum, Atavistia has obtained elements of folk, death, black, and symphonic metal.Although this album was born on the West coast of Canada, it heavily revolves around the nordic metal scene.
