Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young's Deja Vu was the most-anticipated new album in America in 1970. More than 50 years later, it's one of the most famous albums in rock history with legendary songs, including "Carry On" and "Teach Your Children," that still resonate today. This milestone album is transformed into an expansive HiResAudio collection that includes a pristine version of the original album, plus hours of rare and unreleased studio recordings that provide incredible insight into the making of the record.

Crowe recalls in the liner notes that "Deja Vu caught the zeitgeist perfectly" and "might just be the legendary band's most accurate portrait of their fiery individualism." Of this new Deluxe Edition, Crowe opines: "50 years later, with the sonic aperture fully opened, it's a wide-screen look at the big picture of Deja Vu, with more music, including a batch of surprises, unseen photos, and a lot more clarity." On the new anniversary edition, the album's original 10 tracks are joined by 38 more to add nearly two-and-a-half hours of music that includes demos, outtakes, and alternate takes - most of which are previously unreleased. Among them is "Know You Got To Run," the first song the quartet recorded during its first session on July 15 at the house Stills was renting from Peter Tork in Studio City. Other unreleased highlights include the demo for Crosby's "Almost Cut My Hair"; Stills' outtake for "Bluebird Revisited"; and Young's alternate version of "Helpless" featuring harmonica. Also making its debut on the set is a delightful version of "Our House" that features Nash singing with the song's inspiration, Joni Mitchell.

The San Diego-based Krautrock/stoner rock trio Earthless feature the talents of Nebula guitarist Isaiah Mitchell, Electric Nazarene bass player Mike Eginton, and Hot Snakes/Clikitat Ikatowi drummer Mario Rubalcaba (who also played with Rocket from the Crypt under the alias Ruby Mars). The band's debut, a collection of jam-heavy instrumentals titled Sonic Prayer, was released on the Gravity label in 2005. It was followed in 2007 by Rhythms from a Cosmic Sky, which marked the band's first release for Tee Pee Records. Live at Roadburn appeared the following year, showcasing the band's strength as a live act. From the Ages, the band's third studio long-player, arrived in 2013, with a pair of concert albums, Live at Freak Valley and Live at Tym Guitars, Brisbane Australia, arriving in 2015. The following year saw the trio release a split LP with fellow West Coast psych-rockers Harsh Toke, and in 2018, they issued their fourth full-length outing Black Heaven.

Frost* are back in action once more, with their fourth studio album 'Day And Age'. Formed in 2004 by keyboard player Jem Godfrey, the band have so far released 3 studio albums, and most recently the career-spanning '13 Winters' collection. Now the band have returned as the 3-piece of Godfrey alongside longtime collaborators John Mitchell & Nathan King. "We were quite energised by the change to be honest", says Godfrey, "it gave us a much broader palette of options in compositional terms, we would write a song and say, "Let's imagine drummer x has joined the band, what would he do here? It led us off in some interesting new directions". In the end, three drummers became part of the recording project : Kaz Rodriguez (Chaka Khan, Josh Groban), Darby Todd (The Darkness, Martin Barre) and Pat Mastelotto (Mister Mister, King Crimson). "Each musician brought a very different style of playing to the music," says John Mitchell, "and we tailored the songs to suit them." In January 2020, the band setup a new temporary studio for a week in a converted coastguard tower at Dungeness in East Sussex, UK. "We were 30 feet by the sea, next to a nuclear power station and a lighthouse, in midwinter! So there was hardly any daylight and the weather was dreadful", laughs bassist Nathan King, "We wrote "Terrestrial" and "Repeat To Fade" there and in my head you can absolutely hear the bleak isolated oppression having an effect on us. The songs we wrote were far darker - the wind howling round the building at night, the power station generating crackles on the audio, a huge lighthouse next door sweeping a vast light into the fog every 30 seconds and John screaming "ENJOY YOURSELVES YOU SCUM" into a microphone. It was absolutely brilliant!".

Says Miller: "This show from August of 1977 at the Cap Center in Landover, Maryland, captures the band right at the peak after The Joker, and in the middle of Fly Like an Eagle and Book of Dreams, a stream of hits.We decided to call it Breaking Ground because that's exactly what we were doing."

The Black Keys-childhood friends Dan Auerbach on vocals, guitar, bass and keyboards, and Patrick Carney on drums-found success after forming in Akron, Ohio, and moved to Nashville a decade ago. But geography seemingly has never had much bearing on this duo, who started out playing Mississippi hill country blues and who, now, 10 albums in, have recorded a collection of covers by legends including Junior Kimbrough, John Lee Hooker and R.L. Burnside. Delta Kream was recorded over just two days with the duo joined by Mississippi hill country guitar specialists Eric Deaton, who backed up Kimbrough until his 1998 death, and Kenny Brown, who Burnside considered his "adopted white son." (The album's name comes from the cover photo, a classic shot by photographer William Eggleston of a car parked in front of a run-down drive-in, the Delta Kream.) It's easy to revert to cynicism when listening to a new Black Keys record: Here's the beer commercial song, the truck commercial song, the sports league song. This time, the game is: Who did this one inspire? You can detect the low-key Hendrix vibe in Kimbrough's "Stay All Night," with its slow-psych guitar and Carney's hard-working but never showy fills, riffs and tambourine punches. Big Joe Williams' "Mellow Peaches"-woozy organ, loose-limbed rhythm, and a slow build into a (mellow) frenzy-has clear through-lines to the Allman Brothers. The sweltering stomp and serpentine guitar of Kimbrough's "Walk With Me" surely had an effect on ZZ Top. And, of course, there are plenty of "sounds like Creem" moments: Kimbrough's "Come On and Go with Me" and a terrific, slinky take on Kimbrough's cover of John Lee Hooker's "Crawling Kingsnake," complete with what Auerbach calls "almost a disco riff." But, more than anything, you hear exactly where the Black Keys' own style has its roots. Burnside's country blues "Poor Boy a Long Way From Home" exemplifies it with wild, possessed moments when the guitars completely erase the need for vocals. A cover of Rainie Burnette's "Coal Black Mattie" chugs and nods and struts like a rooster, the guitars sliding all over the place, and would've been right at home on the Keys' great El Camino. (Same goes for Burnside's "Going Down South," gussied up with Auerbach's falsetto.) And in fact, Kimbrough's "Do the Romp" showed up on their 2008 debut The Big Come Up as the delightfully nasty "Do the Rump"; this time around, it gets a spit-shine makeover that sounds like sexy confidence. © Shelly Ridenour/Qobuz

Tommy's RockTrip is drummer Tommy Clufetos' (Ozzy Osbourne, Black Sabbath) new hard rock outfit, where he offers his take on the rock 'n roll influences that made him one of the most sought after drummers in the current hard rock scene.
