Tom & Jerry (Tom and Jerry) è una serie di cortometraggi animati cinematografici creata nel 1940 da William Hanna e Joseph Barbera. È incentrata sulla rivalità tra i due protagonisti, Tom Cat e Jerry Mouse, basata sullo slapstick. Tom & Jerry ha guadagnato un pubblico mondiale ed è una delle serie di cartoni animati più popolari e acclamate dalla critica. Inizialmente, Hanna e Barbera diressero 114 cortometraggi di Tom & Jerry per la Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer tra il 1940 e il 1957. In questo periodo essi vinsero sette Oscar al miglior cortometraggio d'animazione, eguagliando le Sinfonie allegre di Walt Disney con il maggior numero di premi in tale categoria. Dopo la chiusura del suo studio di animazione nel 1957, la MGM resuscitò la serie facendo dirigere a Gene Deitch altri 13 cortometraggi di Tom & Jerry per la Rembrandt Films dal 1961 al 1962. Evidentemente sì. I sondaggi infatti dipingono una realtà preoccupante: l'antievoluzionismo sta riconquistando terreno non solo in America ma anche in Europa, e sempre più spesso nelle scuole l'insegnamento biblico dell'origine della vita viene affiancato alla teoria di Darwin. Guidati dalla passione divulgativa di Coyne, scienziato rigoroso e scrittore di talento, vedremo cos'è (e cosa non è) l'evoluzione, e ammireremo la bellezza di una teoria ancora capace di innervosire così tante persone.
