Guitarist Brian Robertson was replaced by Gary Moore prior to the album's recording. Moore had already been a member of the band in the early '70s and served as a tour fill-in for Robertson in 1977, and he fits in perfectly with Lizzy's heavy, dual-guitar attack. Black Rose also turned out to be the band's most musically varied, accomplished, and successful studio album, reaching number two on the U.K. album chart upon release. Lizzy leader Phil Lynott is again equipped with a fine set of originals, which the rest of the band shines on -- the percussion-driven opener "Do Anything You Want To," the pop hit "Waiting for an Alibi," and a gentle song for Lynott's newly born daughter, "Sarah." Not all the material is as upbeat, such as the funky "S&M," as well two grim tales of street life and substance abuse -- "Toughest Street in Town" and "Got to Give It Up" (the latter sadly prophetic for Lynott). Black Rose closes with the epic seven-minute title track, which includes an amazing, complex guitar solo by Moore that incorporates Celtic themes against a hard rock accompaniment. Although the songwriting is distressingly inconsistent, there are a number of wonderful moments on the record, particularly in the sighing "Angel Eyes" and the heartbroken "Dance Away." John Wetton rose to fame with bands Mogul Thrash, Family, King Crimson, Roxy Music/Bryan Ferry, Uriah Heep, and Wishbone Ash. Whilst Eddie Jobson has been a member of several progressive rock bands, including Curved Air, Roxy Music, UK, Jethro Tull and (very briefly) Yes. He was also part of Frank Zappa's band in 1976?77. And Terry Bozzio is best known for his work with Missing Persons and Frank Zappa. The album was released by E.G. Records / Polydor in March 1979. "The Only Thing She Needs", "Caesar's Palace Blues" and "Carrying No Cross" had been performed on tour throughout 1978 (and an early version of "Carrying No Cross" included what became the intro to the title track) by the band's original line-up with Bill Bruford and Allan Holdsworth. C'est le dernier album studio du groupe forme de David Gilmour (guitare), Roger Waters (guitare basse et parolier), Richard Wright (claviers) et Nick Mason (batterie). En 1977, Waters - chanteur, bassiste, parolier, compositeur et arrangeur de Pink Floyd -, esquisse sur une feuille de papier le croquis d'un mur separant public et musiciens. Partant de cette projection, il fait appel a Bob Ezrin (producteur de Lou Reed, Alice Cooper, Kiss, etc) pour l'aider a concretiser son projet. C'est un double album au concept fort qui verra le jour et qui connaitra un succes massif - plus de trente millions de copies vendues. Reelle introspection de la vie de Waters, l'album mele fiction et realite a travers l'histoire de Pink, jeune rock star (qui symbolise en fait Waters lui-meme) en proie a ses demons et qui, petit a petit, construit un mur chimerique autour de lui pour se couper du monde. Cet opera-rock particulierement ambitieux porte essentiellement la marque emotionnelle de Roger Waters (evocation de son pere absent, de sa mere abusive et de la rigidite d'un systeme scolaire qui l'a traumatise a vie). The Wall a d'abord ete remasterise en 1994 au Royaume Uni par EMI. Puis en 1997 la firme Columbia remasterise a son tour l'album, avec une qualite de son superieure a celui d'EMI, pour le publier aux Etats-Unis, au Canada, en Australie, en Amerique du Sud et au Japon. Un peu apres le vingtieme anniversaire de l'album, Capitol relance en 2000 aux Etats-Unis l'edition de 1997 en reprenant le remastering europeen, et EMI en fait de meme au Canada, en Australie, en Amerique du Sud et au Japon. Partant de cette projection, il fait appel a Bob Ezrin (producteur de Lou Reed, Alice Cooper, Kiss, etc) pour l'aider a concretiser son projet. C'est un double album au concept fort qui verra le jour et qui connaitra un succes massif - plus de trente millions de copies vendues. Reelle introspection de la vie de Waters, l'album mele fiction et realite a travers l'histoire de Pink, jeune rock star (qui symbolise en fait Waters lui-meme) en proie a ses demons et qui, petit a petit, construit un mur chimerique autour de lui pour se couper du monde. Cet opera-rock particulierement ambitieux porte essentiellement la marque emotionnelle de Roger Waters (evocation de son pere absent, de sa mere abusive et de la rigidite d'un systeme scolaire qui l'a traumatise a vie). The Wall a d'abord ete remasterise en 1994 au Royaume Uni par EMI. Puis en 1997 la firme Columbia remasterise a son tour l'album, avec une qualite de son superieure a celui d'EMI, pour le publier aux Etats-Unis, au Canada, en Australie, en Amerique du Sud et au Japon. Un peu apres le vingtieme anniversaire de l'album, Capitol relance en 2000 aux Etats-Unis l'edition de 1997 en reprenant le remastering europeen, et EMI en fait de meme au Canada, en Australie, en Amerique du Sud et au Japon. It was finished in 1976 but was turned down by United Artists who deemed it too violent and raucous. On Parole wasn't released until the end of 1979 on the label Bronze which would shape the trio's future. The trio had already made waves by releasing two benchmark albums that year: Overkill and Bomber. Initially recorded with Larry Wallis on vocals and guitar, Lucas Fox on drums and of course the unstoppable Lemmy Kilmister on bass and vocals, On Parole was released in an already-modified version since Philthy "Animal" Taylor, who had become the group's drummer in the meantime, was asked to re-record most of Fox's parts (only the track Lost Johnny remained unchanged). Five of the nine tracks had already appeared on the group's first eponymous album (1977) but that didn't matter - it was time to capitalise on the wind in their sails. This was another time, with other norms. What was originally considered raucous hardly raised any eyebrows four years later. Vibrator could almost pass for sped-up Beach Boys with its sweet chorus, while Iron Horse/Born To Lose is, strictly speaking, blues. Hugely influenced by MC5, Motörhead's hard rock was still far away from their hectic Ace Of Spades. On Parole is particularly interesting album because it showcases the influences that Lemmy has often cited over the years, which became much harder to detect in his music later on. The cherry on the cake is that this "definitive" remastered re-release is supplemented by six demos produced by Dave Edmunds, the very first producer of the LP who gave up halfway. Dusted down magnificently, it's almost a shame that the whole album didn't benefit from his signature. It would have perfectly suited the trio that later became the rock legends we know today.
