Con il proseguire della serie e delle avventure, aumentano sia gli avversari sia la loro potenza, e le battaglie che ne derivano causano un allontanamento sempre maggiore da quella che era la base della storia in Dragon Ball, ovvero la ricerca delle sfere del drago. Si privilegiano così la crescita dei personaggi e il susseguirsi degli scontri, affidandosi a una trama rivelatasi di enorme successo. La serie copre un arco narrativo di 22 anni, partendo dall'attacco di Radish e concludendosi con la partenza di Goku allo scopo di allenare Ub in occasione del 28º Torneo Tenkaichi. Mentre sono a scuola arriva la notizia che due malviventi hanno rapinato una banca e preso in ostaggio il sindaco chiedendo di poter battersi con Mr. Satan. Videl arriva ed inizia a combattere contro il capo che ha sfidato l'eroe della città. Gohan a scuola è preoccupato e vorrebbe intervenire, ma non gli viene dato il permesso di andare al bagno. Non sapendo come fare il saiyan si concentra agitando le gambe, creando un terremoto che sconvolge la scuola. Approfittando della distrazione generale, esce per andare da Videl. Per fortuna la ragazza sta ancora bene nonostante i banditi aiutino il capo sparando verso di lei. Great Saiyaman interviene e in poco tempo sbaraglia tutta la banda salvando il sindaco. Sta anche per intervenire nello scontro di Videl, ma la ragazza se la cava benissimo da sola abbattendo il capo. Tutto torna alla normalità. Dopo la fine della scuola i compagni di classe dicono a Videl che Gohan è sparito durante il terremoto per ricomparire poco prima di lei. L'uomo rifiuta perché si tratta della sua attrazione principale Gohan, si mette i panni di Great Saiyaman per salvare il piccolo dinosauro. Purtroppo viene scoperto ed è costretto a scappare insieme al cucciolo a piedi perché il piccolo ha paura di volare. Le macchine della polizia lo inseguono e interviene anche Videl, Gohan è costretto ad affrontarla perché lei non vuole credere alla sua innocenza. Il saiyan si limita solo ad evitare gli attacchi di Videl, dicendole che se i genitori non riavranno il loro piccolo arriveranno a cercarlo in città e causerebbero dei disastri. Il direttore del circo intento cerca di riprendere il piccolo che lancia spaventato delle urla. Arrivano i genitori del cucciolo. Great Saiyaman dice che non c'è da preoccuparsi perché sono buoni e rivogliono solo il loro piccolo. Videl capisce come stanno le cose e tenta di fermare il direttore del circo che, prima di essere fermato, spara. I dinosauri, innervositi attaccano Videl e Gohan è costretto a intervenire mettendo ko con un pugno il maschio e dando il piccolo alla madre. Tutto finisce bene e Gohan, insieme a Goten giocano con i dinosauri. Il giorno seguente, a scuola, Videl ringrazia Gohan per come è andata il giorno prima. Il saiyan dice che non è nulla rivelando così di essere Great Saiyaman e confermando i sospetti di Videl. La ragazza dice che non dirà nulla del suo segreto a patto che lui si iscriva al torneo Tenkaichi.
