After three cassette demos, the album "Jord" was what the band considers to be their first "proper" album. Up until that point, the band only sold homemade tapes to friends and a few die-hard collectors - but Jord got a bigger audience, also outside Norway. The band has never been happy about the mix, done quickly with the intent of only a tape release - so they decided to give it a fresh mix from scratch, and include the other songs recorded at the same weekend in the Summer of 2016. Therefore, the «Jord Sessions». There's a new organ track on «Abstraksjoner..» and some bells and percussion on «Valinors Lamper», otherwise, all tracks remain as the original. There's an underlying theme of alienation, roots and dreams on Jord Sessions - with an organic and dynamic sound which gives associations to 70s prog, with traces of electronic music and folk. Plenty of flute, guitars and a vast array of vintage synths give the album a warm and vintage sound, while still sounding fresh and interesting. Reworking glam rock themes with avant-garde synth flourishes, and reversing the process as well, Bowie creates dense but accessible music throughout Scary Monsters. Though it doesn't have the vision of his other classic records, it wasn't designed to break new ground -- it was created as the culmination of Bowie's experimental genre-shifting of the '70s. As a result, Scary Monsters is Bowie's last great album. While the music isn't far removed from the post-punk of the early '80s, it does sound fresh, hip, and contemporary, which is something Bowie lost over the course of the '80s. Only a few songs from each of the band's first three albums are known to exist as multi-tracks, with the rest presumably lost, and it is these nine tracks - plus the previously unreleased pre-debut song 'Freedom's Child' - that have been remixed by Steven Wilson for this very special release. 'Three Piece Suite' includes the songs 'Giant', 'Nothing At All' and 'Why Not' from the first album Giant, 'Pantagruel's Nativity', 'The House, The Street, The Room' from the second album Acquiring The Taste, and 'Schooldays', 'Peel the Paint', 'Mr. Class And Quality' and 'Three Friends' from the album Three Friends. The previously commercially unreleased song 'Freedom's Child' is from the first recording sessions with legendary producer Tony Visconti. The liner notes contain an essay by noted journalist Anil Prasad, in which Gentle Giant's members reflect upon the writing and recording sessions. Furthermore, Steven Wilson and Tony Visconti share their observations about the early days of this unique collection of timeless music from one of progressive rock's most influential bands.
