Jarre created in eighteen months a veritable electronic symphony of intertwining melodic themes. The electronics allowed him to evoke, not imitate the sounds of nature. He recreated them on a synthesiser like Fellini had recreated the sea or the sky at the Cinecitta studio, giving them a personal colour or rhythm. One of the characteristics of Equinoxe is its slow-mo sound effects, seeming to stop time as its sounds melt into the electric heat. Jean Michel Jarre released Equinoxe in 1978. As the follow up album to Oxygene, Equinoxe offers the same mesmerizing affect, with rapid spinning sequencer washes and bubbling synthesizer portions all lilting back and forth to stardust scatterings of electronic pastiches. Using more than 13 different types of synthesizers, Jarre combines whirling soundscapes of multi-textured effects, passages, and sometimes suites to culminate interesting electronic atmospheres. Never repeating the same sounds twice, it is obvious that the science fiction hype of the late 70's played a large part in the making of this album. Computerized rhythms and keyboard-soaked transitions scurry by, replaced by even quicker, more illustrious ones soon after. There is always a pulsating beat or a fluttering tempo happening somewhere in each of the tracks, which are titled as a numbered sequence one to eight. Each track harbors its own energy and electronic fleetness, but none are identical in sound or pace. So much electronic color is added to every track that it is impossible to concentrate on any particular segment, resulting in waves of synth drowning the ears at high tide. In the late 1960s, bassist Neil Merryweather, who played in bands like Mama Lion, C.K. Strong and a respectable solo career, was recording his first record, where a live legend of the harmonica, Charlie Musselwhite, was invited. Soon after that, they recorded the album Neil Merryweather, John Richardson & Boers. In this album, Merryweather, former Ugly Duckling drummer Robin Boers, guitarist John Richardson (formerly Nucleus and Lords Of London) and pianist JJ Velker, who had left the 49th Parallel. This album did not gain much repercussion. During this time, they invite keyboardist Barry Goldberg and singer Lynn Carey to record some tracks, in a kind of Jam Session itself, which results in the self titled album of 1970. Basically a blues rock, hard rock and some ballads. An excellent record, uncompromised, but that should be checked. All of this happened at RCA Studios on Ivar Avenue, where the name of the band is taken. Big Big Train worked very closely with Belle Antique to make this an interesting and beautifully presented album. New cover artwork was commissioned from BBT artist Sarah Louise Ewing and the band recorded a brand new instrumental track written by Nick D'Virgilio which is exclusive to this release. Alongside the new track, the album includes an updated version of the full 30 minute song cycle called London Song which benefits from additional instrumentation which was not included on the previously released download and streaming versions. Summer's Lease also sees the exclusive release of a brand new studio recording of Wind Distorted Pioneers. A live version of this track was performed by the band for the 2015 Stone and Steel Blu-Ray video release. However, this re-arranged version has never before been released as a studio recording. The band was formed from the demise of the Mark V, with members Mike Losekamp (back from his stint with the NYC band Cyrkle) on keyboards and lead vocals, Jim Wyatt on bass, and Jason Hollinger on guitar. Susan Darby was the featured lead singer, she had been with the Mark V and the Knights in the mid 60s. Rick Kalb played drums and "Fly" Barlow on wind instruments. This was the lineup in 1970. With Brexit on the horizon, the themes of 'Arthur' ring alarmingly familiar. Arthur received unanimous acclaim on its release. Each of its 12 original album tracks is an absolute gem and all perfect examples of Ray Davies' intrinsic ability to weave a story around a song. In the vast palette of the now 73-year-old Loner, this formation has always been the most rustic, the rawest, the wildest. A kind of rough diamond feeding on its imperfections to fuel an original rock'n'roll sincerity. With Crazy Horse, the old Canadian bison shoots everything that moves, whether massive rock, "countrysing" or uncontrolled lyrical flights. His old rhythmic accomplice - bassist Billy Talbot and drummer Ralph Molina - is there to keep the structure shaken by guitars well patibular, sticky and uncompromising. Except that in this post, the casting change affects the final result of this vintage 2019. The delicate Nils Lofgren replaces the killer Frank Sampedro who prefers to prolong his sunny retirement in Hawaii. Colorado ends up being less violent than its predecessors. But it remains an album of Crazy Horse. Obviously, Neil Young continues to brandish his fist to remind that the planet hangover. Resistant green from the first hour, he does not give up the affair and his activism remains intact as on the melancholy Green is Blue. PURPLE: Super Deluxe Edition explores the making of the album with a mix of unreleased music that includes demos ("Unglued" and "Army Ants") and early versions of album tracks ("Meat Plow" and Interstate Love Song"), plus acoustic recordings ("Big Empty"). The collection also features three unreleased live performances from the 1994 KROQ Acoustic Christmas show, including a version of "Christmastime Is Here" from A Charlie Brown Christmas. Perhaps the biggest surprise of the new collection, however, is STP's previously unreleased demo of "She Knows Me Too Well," a song the Beach Boys originally recorded in 1965.
