Crichton disse di stare lavorando su un romanzo che parlava di dinosauri e DNA. Spielberg abbandonò il progetto ER per dedicarsi a quello che si sarebbe evoluto nel celebre film Jurassic Park. Ciò nonostante Spielberg aiutò molto lo sviluppo del progetto ER, producendo l'intera prima stagione e dando consigli sulla storia, come insistere affinché Julianna Margulies diventasse membro regolare del cast. Fu anche attraverso la Amblin Entertainment di Spielberg che John Wells fu contattato per essere il produttore esecutivo dello show. A causa della mancanza di fondi e di tempo per costruire un set, l'episodio pilota di ER fu girato in un ospedale a Los Angeles, il Linda Vista Community Hospital, non più in uso dal 1990. Un set modellato sul pronto soccorso del Chicago Cook County General Hospital fu in seguito costruito negli studios della Warner Bros a Burbank, California, benché la serie facesse comunque ampio uso di sequenze girate a Chicago. I restanti sette episodi vennero trasmessi, insieme ai nuovi episodi, con la seconda stagione Il legal drama è stato ideato da David E. Kelley, lo stesso autore della serie "Ally McBeal": Dylan McDermott e altri attori del cast sono apparsi in due episodi della serie con Calista Flockhart... Ally era addirittura attratta da Bobby Donnell! Al termine della serie l'attore James Spader, nel ruolo di Alan Shore, è diventato il protagonista di uno spin-off tratto dal telefilm, "Boston Legal", in onda negli USA sulla ABC dal mese di settembre 2004 ed in Italia proposto quando ancora le stagioni 6 e successive di "The Practice" erano inedite. Trama La storia si svolge negli anni ottanta in un periodo di tempo lungo alcuni anni. Il terzetto di ladri e truffatori conosciuto come Trio Drombo, il cui simbolo è un teschio, viene contattato e "arruolato" dal Dottor Dokrobei, un misterioso e potentissimo personaggio che si presenta loro sempre e solo in voce, collocata all'interno di un oggetto diverso di volta in volta, con impresso un teschio, che poi al termine della spiegazione, esplode. Il loro compito, da quel momento, sarà trovare i quattro frammenti della pietra Dokrostone, riuniti i quali si potrà ottenere un favoloso tesoro (il gran filone d'oro citato nella sigla italiana). Il Trio Drombo inizia così a organizzare l'ennesima truffa per poter racimolare i soldi necessari alla realizzazione del robot da combattimento che li porterà nel luogo dove secondo Dokrobei "dovrebbe" esserci un frammento della pietra. Inutile dire che l'intuizione del Dottore nella maggior parte dei casi si rivelerà sbagliata. Ma i tre non hanno fatto i conti con i paladini della giustizia, gli Yattaman (due ragazzini di nome Ganchan e Janet, detti anche Yatta1 e Yatta2), che scoprono i loro piani e li inseguono con i loro robot a forma di animali. Giunti nel luogo prescelto, le due formazioni si scontrano, prima fisicamente e poi per mezzo dei rispettivi automi. Ganchan ha come arma una Kendama, con la quale colpisce uno dei tre nemici e, premendo un tasto, scatena una scossa elettrica, così come Janet ha un bastone telescopico dal quale escono scosse elettriche. Alla fine, più per la stupidità o la sfortuna dei cattivi che per la bravura dei buoni, il bene trionfa. Il trio Drombo si riavvia mesto verso casa a bordo di un tandem, ma le loro sofferenze non sono finite: il Dottor Dokrobei, collegato a loro tramite un altoparlante a forma di teschio installato sulla bici, è scontento di loro ed elargisce di volta in volta una terribile punizione a distanza. Alcune volte li trasforma in tre oche e li fa inseguire da un lupo, oppure trasforma il terreno su cui poggiano i piedi in sabbie mobili, fa apparire delle scarpe molleggianti ai loro piedi, telecomanda il tandem a distanza fino a condurli nel luogo della punizione (ad esempio un cimitero spaziale) e altro ancora. I tre, dalla disperazione, esclamano ripetutamente "al diavolo Dokrobei!!!". Questo esilarante canovaccio si ripete per tutte le puntate della serie, sino all'ultima, dove uno stupito Trio Drombo riesce a mettere insieme la Dokrostone e ne scopre l'insospettabile legame col Dottor Dokrobei. Quest'ultimo, infatti, è in realtà un alieno a forma di teschio, che si era rotto in pezzi atterrando sulla Terra: la Dokrostone in realtà è il suo corpo, che il trio Drombo ha quindi ricomposto, e ora Dokrobei potrà tornare finalmente sul suo pianeta. Scopriranno, dopo aver consegnato l'ultimo pezzo della pietra Dokrostone la vera identità di Dokrobei, e che il famoso tesoro non è mai esistito. Il trio, dopo aver capito di essere stato ingannato, decide di separarsi prendendo 3 sentieri diversi. Ma si riuniranno di nuovo perché i tre sentieri si riunificano in una sola strada. Nonostante le serie Time Bokan abbiano come tratto distintivo il viaggio spaziotemporale, proprio Yattaman che di esse è la serie più popolare, non fa mai un uso esplicito di questo espediente narrativo: le Yatta-macchine non sono definite macchine del tempo, e gli Yattaman raggiungono la loro meta solo per mezzo dei loro veicoli, spostandosi cioè nello spazio. In realtà alcuni viaggi sono apparentemente inspiegabili, dato che i luoghi di destinazione sono tratti da fiabe popolari o leggende, oppure sono chiaramente collocabili nel passato o nel futuro (il che quindi effettivamente presupporrebbe un viaggio nel tempo). Esiste un'eccezione: in un episodio viene effettuato un viaggio nel tempo vero e proprio, anche se per mezzo della magia: tutta la puntata è in realtà un omaggio alla serie precedente, La macchina del tempo, che introduceva appunto il concetto di viaggio temporale.
