Passeggeri ed equipaggio sono incolumi, ma l'aeroporto di destinazione non risponde alla radio, e un gigantesco ragazzino solleva la navicella a mezz'aria, costringendola a una nuova ripartenza, solo per precipitare poco più in là, tra piante giganti e un minaccioso, gigantesco gatto. Sarà l'inizio di un'avventura mozzafiato su un pianeta del tutto simile alla Terra, ma dove tutto è di dimensioni di 12 volte superiori, retto da un apparente regime dittatoriale e con una tecnologia arretrata, rispetto alla Terra, collocabile intorno agli anni '50 del ventesimo secolo. Davis può contare sull'aiuto del signor Giles French, una sorta di maggiordomo, balia e tuttofare che condivide con il padrone di casa la responsabilità di prendersi cura della quindicenne Cissy e dei due gemelli di sei anni Jody e Buffy. I cinque vivono al 600 della 62ª strada a Manhattan (l'indirizzo viene fornito da French quando iscrive Buffy e Jody alla scuola). Quando Sebastian Cabot, che interpreta il sig. Giles French, si ammalò, venne introdotto il fratello del suo personaggio, Nigel French, detto "Niles", assunto dalla famiglia Davis (personaggio presente in nove episodi del 1967) mentre Giles è in Inghilterra in visita alla regina.
