Dopo sette anni dalla sua sconfitta, una navicella contenente un Broly in fin di vita si schianta sulla Terra. Videl, Goten e Trunks, alla ricerca delle sfere del drago, capitano in un villaggio povero, anche se ricco di cristalli. Lo sciamano del posto gli rivela che un terribile mostro minaccia il villaggio così i tre amici, in cambio della promessa di ricevere in cambio la sfera, sconfiggono il mostro che si rivela essere un dinosauro molto debole. Quando però Videl e Goten hanno un battibecco tra di loro, le urla di quest'ultimo risvegliano l'odio cieco del leggendario Super Saiyan. Una forte eruzione vulcanica porta Videl ad investigare finendo per imbattersi proprio con Broly.

Jaguar, un barone rivale di lunga data di Mr. Satan, decide di invitare il campione mondiale di arti marziali a casa sua per farlo combattere contro dei bio-guerrieri. Mr. Satan si rivolge così a Trunks, Goten ed Androide 18, convincendo quest'ultima a partecipare con la promessa di darle ulteriore denaro in aggiunta a quello che le era già dovuto. I ragazzi e l'androide accettano e si recano assieme al campione alla villa del barone. La battaglia contro i guerrieri bionici viene vinta in brevissimo tempo, con Mr. Satan che se ne dà le glorie senza neanche prenderne parte. Allora il barone concede una tregua ai quattro dicendo che avrebbe sfoderato il suo migliore guerriero bionico. Goten e Trunks allora, mentre curiosano per la villa e dopo aver incontrato vari scienziati, si imbattono nel guerriero che si rivela essere un personaggio piuttosto inaspettato.

Successivamente i due fratelli decidono di essere intrappolati in due carillon differenti per evitare che le due parti di Hildegarn possano riunirsi, e vengono spediti in due galassie differenti. Un sacerdote malvagio però riesce ad uccidere il fratello di Tapion, e recatosi sulla Terra aggira Gohan convincendolo che il male sta per manifestarsi e, tramite un desiderio espresso al drago Shenron, ottiene l'apertura di uno strano carillon...

La storia si svolge sul pianeta Vegeta dove da una madre ignota e dal padre Bardack nasce Kakaroth (il futuro Goku). Bardack è un guerriero Saiyan che conquista pianeti per ordine di Freezer, così come tutti gli altri Saiyan. A causa di un colpo alla nuca ricevuto da un abitante del pianeta Kanassa, Bardack acquista la capacità di prevedere il futuro. All'inizio egli crede che le sue visioni, in cui vede un bambino simile a sé stesso, siano dei sogni. Dopo essersi risvegliato ed avere visto che i compagni sono già partiti per sottomettere un pianeta, li segue.

Goku è morto in seguito ad una malattia cardiaca incurabile. Il mondo è caduto in rovina a causa degli androidi numero 17 e 18, creati dal Dr. Gelo per vendicarsi della distruzione del Red Ribbon da parte di Goku. Stanco di assistere impotente al terrore ed alla distruzione seminata dai due androidi, Trunks chiede a Gohan, l'ultimo Saiyan rimasto in vita oltre a lui, di fargli da maestro e di insegnargli a combattere. Trunks si impegna con tutto sé stesso per riuscire a diventare un Super Saiyan, ma la rabbia che possiede non è sufficiente per scatenare il suo potere nascosto. I due Saiyan, a causa degli allenamenti, trascorrono molto tempo insieme. Questo fa sì che Trunks si affezioni molto al suo maestro, al punto da vederlo come un vero fratello. Di lì a breve, i due androidi attaccano duramente la loro cittadina.

Cento anni dopo l'inizio dell'ultimo Torneo di arti marziali, Pan è ancora in vita, sebbene anziana, ed ha un nipote che è identico a Goku da bambino, chiamato Goku Jr. Questi però non è appassionato di arti marziali, non ha mai sfruttato le sue potenzialità e viene deriso da altri ragazzini. Quando Pan si ammala però decide di cercare la sfera del drago posseduta in passato dalla sua famiglia, così sperando di poter esprimere il desiderio di far guarire sua nonna. Intraprende quindi il viaggio affrontandolo come un bambino normale e timoroso, inconscio delle proprie potenzialità. Lungo la strada stringe amicizia con Pack, uno dei bambini che erano soliti prendersi gioco di lui e, senza rendersene conto, trovandosi attaccato da vari mostri, riesce quasi a trasformarsi in Super Saiyan.

Alcuni anni dopo la titanica battaglia con Majin Bu che ha determinato il destino dell'intero universo, la Terra ha vissuto un periodo di pace, ma ora deve fronteggiare un nuovo pericolo. Il Dio della distruzione Bills, che mantiene l'equilibrio dell'intero universo, si è risvegliato da un lungo sonno; egli è capace di distruggere solo per diletto e il suo ritorno genera panico sia nei Re Kaioh che nei Kaiohshin. Venuti a sapere di un Saiyan che ha sconfitto Freezer e dopo aver sognato che lo stesso guerriero potesse trasformarsi in Super Saiyan God, Bills e Whis raggiungono Goku sul pianeta di Re Kaioh. Entusiasta della comparsa di un forte avversario dopo tanto tempo, il Saiyan ignora gli avvertimenti di Re Kaioh e sfida il Dio della distruzione nella sua forma di Super Saiyan 3, ma non può far nulla contro il suo immenso potere e viene sconfitto con un colpo di mano sul collo dopo pochi secondi dall'inizio dello scontro.
