Hiromi Oka è una normalissima quindicenne senza particolari qualità iscrittasi al liceo Mishi, famoso per la grande abilità dei suoi tennisti, tanto da essere conosciuto come il “Regno del tennis”. Anche Hiromi frequenta il club di tennis, ma non certo per amore di tale sport; lei prova infatti una grandissima ammirazione per Reyka Ryuzaki, stella del club femminile sopprannominata, per l'abilità e la leggiadria dei suoi movimento, Madame Butterfly. La vita scorre tranquilla e felice per Hiromi, finchè l'arrivo di un nuovo allenatore sconvolge tutti gli equilibri del club. Jin Munakata, questo il nome del nuovo coach, avverte del potenziale in Hiromi e decide di selezionarla per il campionato distrettuale interscolastico. Inizia così l'inferno per Hiromi, isolata dal resto delle compagnie del club che ritengono che abbia approfittato di un'amicizia segreta con l'allenatore per farsi selezionare...

L'eroina della storia è Hiromi Oka, una normalissima quindicenne senza particolari qualità iscrittasi al liceo Mishi, famoso per la grande abilità dei suoi tennisti, tanto da essere conosciuto come il “Regno del tennis”. Anche Hiromi frequenta il club di tennis, ma non certo per amore di tale sport; lei prova infatti una grandissima ammirazione per Reyka Ryuzaki, stella del club femminile sopprannominata, per l'abilità e la leggiadria dei suoi movimento, Madame Butterfly. La vita scorre tranquilla e felice per Hiromi, essendo riuscita addirittura ad entrare nelle simpatie della Butterfly, finchè l'arrivo di un nuovo allenatore sconvolge tutti gli equilibri del club.

La nostra storia è ambientata negli anni '60, in un Giappone post-bellico alternativo in cui il governo è presieduto dalla Germania, qui vittoriosa trionfatrice della seconda guerra mondiale e detentrice del potere assoluto. Il controllo del paese è ripartito tra tre forze principali: la polizia pubblica, il reparto speciale DIME e un gruppo di terroristi ribelli conosciuti come “La Setta”. In questo scenario di grave agitazione politica (il lungometraggio si apre proprio durante una sommossa popolare contro la polizia pubblica) si intrecciano le storie di Kazuki Fuse, membro dello squadrone d'assalto della DIME, e di Kei, una giovane facente parte del gruppo delle “Cappuccetto Rosso”, ossia donne e bambine incaricate dai ribelli di trasportare ordigni esplosivi. Fuse (il cui nome è ricollegabile alla parola "cane") è un abilissimo membro della squadra d'assalto, e tuttavia anche una persona emotivamente fragile...
