Ovunque lo seguono l'ombra scura che gli sta alle calcagna e quel vuoto dentro del quale non riesce a liberarsi se non quando, in una stanza del suo modesto appartamento, compone i brani che faranno parte del suo LP meno noto e più rispettato - Nebraska - ben lontani da ciò che la casa discografica si aspetta. Bruce vorrà che siano masterizzati esattamente come li ha registrati su un'audiocassetta (priva di custodia), e non vorrà fare tour, singoli o interviste: nemmeno mettere il suo viso sulla copertina.
