Fleetwood Mack: Live 1975 is a rare anniversary live release that captures a pivotal moment in the band's story. Half a century ago, in the autumn of 1975, Fleetwood Mac set out across the United States to spread their first album with the new lineup-the one that would launch them to stardom with Californian duo Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham now on board. The album, deliberately self-titled, marked the reinvention of a group born ten years earlier in England and rooted in the blues-rock tradition cherished by founding guitarist Peter Green.
This collection of live recordings-captured at the Capitol Theatre in Passaic, New Jersey on 17 October 1975, and at the Jorgensen Auditorium in Storrs, Connecticut a few days later-captures a six-piece band brimming with energy. The set moves between older repertoire, including Green's bluesy "Oh Well" and "The Green Manalishi," and brand new material. Stevie Nicks delivers a fierce rendition of "Landslide," written before she joined the band, along with the soon-to-be pop classic "Rhiannon". It's a setlist poised between past and present, radiating the freshness of a group just beginning its ascent-blues roots, rock fire, guitar solos, and a driving rhythm section.
The late Christine McVie handles introductions with easy charm, and the band's cohesion is immediately evident. The sound quality varies but remains generally strong, and Fleetwood Mac: Live 1975 closes with the nearly ten-minute psychedelic sprawl of "Hypnotized," written by Bob Welch for Mystery to Me (1973). © Charlotte Saintoin/Qobuz
