The result is arguably the band's finest live album, even though it may be a bit short (not even 39 minutes in length). But the performances are vibrant and focused -- almost all were taken from the reunited lineup's New Year's Eve, 1984 gig at the Orpheum Theater. The only criticism is that, again, the majority of the tracks were already released as live versions (on 1978's Live Bootleg), and only three make their in-concert debut on record. Still, positively smoking versions of "Back in the Saddle," "Walk This Way," "Same Old Song and Dance," "Last Child," "Draw the Line," and "Toys in the Attic" rock out like no other Aerosmith live recording. The album's undisputed highlight is a fantastic rendition of the autobiographical early nugget "Movin' Out," as well as the title track from the Joe Perry Project's 1980 debut, Let the Music Do the Talking (which was subsequently re-recorded for Aerosmith's Done with Mirrors). Although Live Bootleg may contain more songs, the more succinct Classics Live! Perfetto per compositori "tradizionali" e semplicemente irrinunciabile per disc jockey e musicisti elettronici, è la scelta top per mixare, registrare, comporre e arrangiare musica. - Il nuovo tool per convertire l'audio in MIDI ti permette di estrarre ritmi, note e accordi da tracce audio e trasformarle in file MIDI, quindi totalmente editabili. Non solo: puoi anche cantare qualcosa nel microfono, trasformarla in un file MIDI e assegnarle qualunque strumento. Se desideravi suonare un assolo di chitarra con la voce, adesso lo puoi fare! - Le automazioni vengono registrate (e poi editate) direttamente nelle clip, il che rende il processo più semplice e diretto. - Il browser è stato rinnovato, e adesso è più semplice trovare suoni, effetti, strumenti, loop ed ogni altro elemento. - La libreria è stata ulteriormente arricchita, e i nuovi Instruments Rack offrono migliaia di suoni, dai synth vintage ai drum kit passando per strumenti acustici e loop. - Ableton ha ridisegnato radicalmente alcuni effetti, e ne ha aggiunti di nuovi, tra cui il Glue Compressor (creato in collaborazione con Cytomic), un incredibile compressore da consolle anni 80. - Strumenti di editing MIDI migliorati. - Max for Live è ora incluso nella suite, con 26 strumenti ad esso dedicati. Funzioni Ableton Live è un vero e proprio strumento musicale digitale. In un'interfaccia rigorosamente 2D (e quindi molto docile con il processore), Ableton Live offre tutti gli strumenti che servono a fare musica. Questo vuol dire che, oltre ad un sequencer avanzatissimo per registrare in tempo reale tracce audio e MIDI, hai a disposizione drum machine, simulatori di amplificatori per basso e chitarra, campionatori ed effetti di ogni tipo. È anche possibile creare dei rack di effetti personalizzati che puoi salvare per usi futuri. Extract groove: come usarlo Una delle funzioni peculiari di Ableton Live è Extract Groove, che estrae il "feel" di un file audio per applicarlo ad un altro. Chiariamo con un esempio. Mettiamo il caso che tu abbia una traccia audio di batteria che ti piace moltissimo e che tu voglia usarla in un pezzo che stai scrivendo. La procedura è semplice: prendi il file audio e lo importi nella timeline di Ableton Live, che automaticamente la metterà a tempo col resto. Ma c'è un problema: il feel della batteria non si adatta a quello del resto degli strumenti e si avverte chiaramente che si tratta di una traccia inserita "a forza". Con Ableton Live il problema si risolve con un semplice click del mouse. Vai ad esempio sulla traccia che contiene il basso o un altro strumento che nel pezzo svolge un ruolo ritmico rilevante (può essere una chitarra funky, o un pianoforte, ad esempio), cliccaci con il tasto destro e scegli Estrai groove da menu. In questo modo il groove viene salvato nella Raccolta di groove. Per verificarlo puoi cliccare sul tasto che raffigura due onde, che si trova nell'angolo in basso a sinistra del browser di Ableton Live. A questo punto puoi applicare quel groove a tutte le tracce che desideri semplicemente selezionandolo dal menu Groove della sezione Vista clip del file. Per tornare all'esempio, estraendo il groove dalla traccia di basso ed applicandolo a quella di batteria, quest'ultima si adatterà perfettamente al resto del pezzo. Alcune caratteristiche tecniche Gli algoritmi di time stretching di Ableton Live sono i più evoluti sul mercato, e mettere a tempo tracce diverse, anche registrate a bpm molto differenti è un gioco da ragazzi (e i risultati eccellenti). Ableton Live gestisce magistralmente le librerie AKAI, il formato MIDI (la mappatura dei controller è in assoluto la più semplice dell'intera categoria dell'audio digitale) e supporta i plugin VST. Tramite il ricco menu Preferenze puoi attivare e disattivare ogni singolo ingresso ed uscita che la tua scheda audio possiede (in modo da liberare risorse di sistema che resterebbero altrimenti occupate ma inutilizzate), e puoi anche configurare i controller MIDI connessi al tuo computer (ad esempio i controller Novation, con cui Ableton ha una solida partnership). Dal tab Audio puoi invece scegliere la dimensione del buffer di entrata, di uscita, la frequenza di campionamento e molti altri parametri. Se il tuo computer è multiprocessore, puoi stabilire se usare tutti i core a disposizione con Ableton Live oppure utilizzarne uno solo. Usabilità Nonostante si tratti di un'applicazione professionale, imparare ad usarla non è complicato, perché la Ableton ha puntato molto sull'usabilità, con risultati sorprendenti. Una delle peculiarità di Ableton Live è la presenza di due diverse visualizzazioni dell'interfaccia, una specifica per suonare dal vivo e pensata avendo in mente le esigenze dei DJ e dei musicisti elettronici, e una classica, da sequencer puro, con cui puoi registrare ed arrangiare in maniera classica. Il primo tipo di visualizzazione è anche uno strumento di arrangiamento geniale che nessun altro programma vanta. La possibilità di muovere, duplicare, editare ogni clip e di sistemarlo in un qualunque punto dell'interfaccia ti permette infatti di provare arrangiamenti diversi nel modo più intuitivo. Prova, cambia, aggiungi, togli. In Ableton Live è tutto incredibilmente facile. Qualità Ableton Live è un software musicale di primissima grandezza. La lista di musicisti di fama mondiale che lo usano in ogni fase del processo creativo è infinita: Daft Punk, Nine Inch Nails e Mogwai sono solo alcuni. L'aspetto sorprendente è come sia fruibile anche da chi non ha grande esperienza con applicazioni simili. Ed è raro trovare programmi professionali con un grado così elevato di usabilità. Extract groove: come usarlo Una delle funzioni peculiari di Ableton Live è Extract Groove, che estrae il "feel" di un file audio per applicarlo ad un altro. Chiariamo con un esempio. Mettiamo il caso che tu abbia una traccia audio di batteria che ti piace moltissimo e che tu voglia usarla in un pezzo che stai scrivendo. La procedura è semplice: prendi il file audio e lo importi nella timeline di Ableton Live, che automaticamente la metterà a tempo col resto. Ma c'è un problema: il feel della batteria non si adatta a quello del resto degli strumenti e si avverte chiaramente che si tratta di una traccia inserita "a forza". Con Ableton Live il problema si risolve con un semplice click del mouse. Vai ad esempio sulla traccia che contiene il basso o un altro strumento che nel pezzo svolge un ruolo ritmico rilevante (può essere una chitarra funky, o un pianoforte, ad esempio), cliccaci con il tasto destro e scegli Estrai groove da menu. In questo modo il groove viene salvato nella Raccolta di groove. Per verificarlo puoi cliccare sul tasto che raffigura due onde, che si trova nell'angolo in basso a sinistra del browser di Ableton Live. A questo punto puoi applicare quel groove a tutte le tracce che desideri semplicemente selezionandolo dal menu Groove della sezione Vista clip del file. Per tornare all'esempio, estraendo il groove dalla traccia di basso ed applicandolo a quella di batteria, quest'ultima si adatterà perfettamente al resto del pezzo. Alcune caratteristiche tecniche Gli algoritmi di time stretching di Ableton Live sono i più evoluti sul mercato, e mettere a tempo tracce diverse, anche registrate a bpm molto differenti è un gioco da ragazzi (e i risultati eccellenti). Ableton Live gestisce magistralmente le librerie AKAI, il formato MIDI (la mappatura dei controller è in assoluto la più semplice dell'intera categoria dell'audio digitale) e supporta i plugin VST. Tramite il ricco menu Preferenze puoi attivare e disattivare ogni singolo ingresso ed uscita che la tua scheda audio possiede (in modo da liberare risorse di sistema che resterebbero altrimenti occupate ma inutilizzate), e puoi anche configurare i controller MIDI connessi al tuo computer (ad esempio i controller Novation, con cui Ableton ha una solida partnership). Dal tab Audio puoi invece scegliere la dimensione del buffer di entrata, di uscita, la frequenza di campionamento e molti altri parametri. Se il tuo computer è multiprocessore, puoi stabilire se usare tutti i core a disposizione con Ableton Live oppure utilizzarne uno solo. Usabilità Nonostante si tratti di un'applicazione professionale, imparare ad usarla non è complicato, perché la Ableton ha puntato molto sull'usabilità, con risultati sorprendenti. Una delle peculiarità di Ableton Live è la presenza di due diverse visualizzazioni dell'interfaccia, una specifica per suonare dal vivo e pensata avendo in mente le esigenze dei DJ e dei musicisti elettronici, e una classica, da sequencer puro, con cui puoi registrare ed arrangiare in maniera classica. Il primo tipo di visualizzazione è anche uno strumento di arrangiamento geniale che nessun altro programma vanta. La possibilità di muovere, duplicare, editare ogni clip e di sistemarlo in un qualunque punto dell'interfaccia ti permette infatti di provare arrangiamenti diversi nel modo più intuitivo. Prova, cambia, aggiungi, togli. In Ableton Live è tutto incredibilmente facile. Qualità Ableton Live è un software musicale di primissima grandezza. La lista di musicisti di fama mondiale che lo usano in ogni fase del processo creativo è infinita: Daft Punk, Nine Inch Nails e Mogwai sono solo alcuni. L'aspetto sorprendente è come sia fruibile anche da chi non ha grande esperienza con applicazioni simili. Ed è raro trovare programmi professionali con un grado così elevato di usabilità.
