Il suo primo anime diventa un enorme successo, scatenando un fenomeno sociale e guadagnandosi il riconoscimento di regista geniale emergente. Il suo prossimo progetto è destinato a essere un film commedia romantica incentrato sul primo amore! Di ritorno da un conbini lo studente Subaru Natsuki si ritrova catapultato in un altro mondo. Nel mezzo dello shock di ritrovarsi da solo in un mondo sconosciuto viene pure attaccato, ma una misteriosa ragazza dai capelli d'argento e un gatto fatato lo salvano. Subaru cerca di collaborare con la ragazza per ricambiare il favore quando vengono attaccati di nuovo e uccisi. Subaru si risveglia nello stesso posto in cui si è ritrovato in questo nuovo mondo per la prima volta e lì capisce di possedere l'abilità di "ritornare indietro attraverso la morte", ovvero di riavvolgere il tempo quando muore.
