Il protagonista della serie è Jeff Winger (Joel McHale), un affermato avvocato la cui laurea viene invalidata poichéottenuta in modo illegale. Jeff si trova quindi costretto a frequentare uno dei peggiori college del paese, il Greendale Community College in Colorado. Le divertenti vicende riguardano il bizzarro gruppo di studio di Jeff, del quale fa parte anche una giovane ragazza di nome Britta Perry (Gillian Jacobs), della quale si innamora, che tenterà di rimettere ordine nella sua vita. Del gruppo fanno parte anche altri singolari personaggi, come Shirley Bennet (Yvette Nicole Brown), una mamma che decide di frequentare per la prima volta il College dopo il fallimento del suo matrimonio, l'ex quarterback del liceo Troy Barnes e la nerd Annie Edison, segretamente innamorata di quest'ultimo dai tempi del liceo. Assai particolari appaiono anche i professori dell'istituto, tra i quali quello di spagnolo e quello di psicologia risultano i più singolari.

In un mondo dove la magia è al centro della vita quotidiana sono nati Asta, un ragazzo completamente privo di ogni abilità magica, e il suo amico Yuno, che al contrario è dotato di grande forza magica legata al vento. I due sono fin da piccoli rivali e hanno deciso di competere per il titolo di Imperatore Magico, la più alta carica magica del loro regno. Yuno ottiene un leggendario grimorio a quattro foglie dello stesso tipo ottenuto dal primo imperatore magico, mentre Asta, nonostante la sua mancanza di magia, ottiene un misterioso grimorio di cinque foglie (che non può essere chiaramente identificato da altri poiché è usurato), che contiene una misteriosa spada in grado di annullare la magia. Successivamente, lui e Yuno si uniscono ai Cavalieri Magici come primo passo per realizzare le loro ambizioni.

Matteo ha 9 anni e i suoi genitori, per un equivoco, sono stati appena arrestati dai Carabinieri, l'accusa è detenzione e spaccio di Marijuana. Per non fargli scoprire nulla e passare un Natale tranquillo i suoi due zii mettono da parte le loro vite turbolente e decidono di dedicarsi a lui, almeno fino a che non si risolverà il disguido legale. Si crea così un Natale in campagna con una strana famiglia allargata: uno zio è un single che non ha intenzione di legarsi troppo alla nuova fidanzata che porta con sè (anche se forse per la prima volta sente qualcosa), l'alt ro è stato mollato dalla moglie e la coinvolge per riconquistarla nonostante lei abbia già accanto un nuovo compagno più rude. Agli inganni per far credere a Matteo che i genitori sono in vacanza si sovrappongono così quelli per far tornare con la moglie lo zio separato e sistemare quello single.
