La serie tv di Devilman racconta la storia di un giovane demone spedito sulla terra per sconvolgere il genere umano e far trionfare il regno delle tenebre. Per realizzare il suo proposito Devilman si impossessa del corpo di un ragazzo, Akira Fudo, ucciso insieme a suo padre dallo stesso Devilman, mentre i due si trovavano in montagna durante un'escursione. Tornato a casa nelle sembianze di Akira, Devilman viene adottato dai Makimura, amici dei suoi genitori, e si innamora della loro figlia, la giovane e carina Miki. L'amore verso una fanciulla umana rappresenta un torto che il regno dei demoni, che aveva spedito Devilman sulla terra per annientare il genere umano, non può tollerare. Inizia così una terribile guerra tra Devilman e i suoi ex-alleati.
