La Cronosfera (questo è il nome di questa fantascientifica macchina) permette di ritornare indietro nel tempo solo di sette giorni. In questo modo è possibile prevenire disastri, attentati terroristici o qualsivoglia evento impedendo che esso accada o che si concluda con morte e distruzione. A causa della limitata quantità di combustibile alieno, la macchina può essere usata solo in rari eventi di grande portata. La squadra ha sede in una base super segreta nel deserto del Nevada chiamata Never, Never Land. In diverse occasioni la serie ha previsto, indirettamente, alcuni attentati e disastri poi effettivamente verificatisi, tanto da far sospettare più d'uno che la serie sia stata chiusa in quanto considerata, nel superstizioso mondo dello spettacolo, portatrice di disgrazie. Tutti i principali personaggi della serie sono morti in più occasioni (incluso il crononauta Frank Parker) salvo poi ritornare in vita grazie al backstep. Missione: salvare i bambini; questo episodio fu originariamente prodotto per la prima stagione, ma trasmesso durante la seconda.
