16 ottobre 1989: una catastrofica pioggia di meteoriti contenenti un minerale radioattivo, la kryptonite, si abbatte sulla cittadina di Smallville, nel Kansas. Due coniugi, Jonathan e Martha Kent, trovano in un campo un bambino nei pressi di una astronave e decidono di prenderlo con sé e crescerlo come un figlio. Dieci anni più tardi Clark Kent, il bambino divenuto ormai un adolescente, e l'amica Chloe Sullivan, entrambi giornalisti in erba del liceo di Smallville, indagano su alcuni eventi inspiegabili che si verificano nella cittadina e che sono causati dai frammenti dei meteoriti ancora presenti, che hanno modificato geneticamente alcuni abitanti dotandoli di strani poteri.

16 ottobre 1989: una catastrofica pioggia di meteoriti contenenti un minerale radioattivo, la kryptonite, si abbatte sulla cittadina di Smallville, nel Kansas. Due coniugi, Jonathan e Martha Kent, trovano in un campo un bambino nei pressi di una astronave e decidono di prenderlo con sé e crescerlo come un figlio. Chloe paga la cauzione e insieme cercano di capire cos'è successo. Presto scoprono che alla festa era presente anch Geoff e grazie all'aiuto di Clark scoprono che Geoff è in grado di paralizzare le persone a piacimento. Dopo un incubo Clark sireca alle caverne per parlare con Jor-El il quale lo avverte di un imminente pericolo: i cristalli sono in mani umane e Clark deve riunirli prima che un'altra pioggia di meteoriti si abbatta sulla Terra, questa volta distruggendola. Lana chiede aiuto a Lex perchè è convinta di aver commesso un omicidio, Lex si offre di aiutarla ma in cambio vuole il cristallo. Nel frattempo Jason ritorna e minaccia i Kent con una pistola e chiede dove si trova Clark. Clark sta raccogliendo i cristalli; Lex mette Lana su un elicottero per portarla in salvo e poi si reca alle caverne indiane dove trova Chloe. Clark riesce a mettere i cristalli insieme all'ultimo momento, quando le meteore cominciano a bombardare Smallville. Dopo che ha riunito i cristalli, Clark si ritrova in un altro luogo della Terra, Lionel è sotto shock dopo che il suo cervello ha eseguito l'equivalente di un download kryptoniano e Lana, sopravvissuta alla caduta dell'elicottero, si trova di fronte alla versione gigante dell'astronave di Clark. 22: Gran finale
